I think we keep going on to much about is it right to have sex before marriage, is it right for gay people to get married, or is it right that gay people can have children when there are more important things going on in the world. It should not matter if you are gay or straight and it should not matter if you have sex before marriage as long as that is what you both want. What we should be looking at, is how to help poorer countries and help people who struggle survive.

Where are all the REAL role models? I don’t think it’s courageous at ALL that Lohan spoke up! Pretty much everyone in Hollywood is a democrat, so she’s not treading any new ground here–her opinions are not awe inspiring or anything. Just vote your beliefs, either way. I personally disagree with abortion and I have the right to that, just like she has the right to believe that it’s okay! It’s so frustrating that everyone tells people to be open minded and non-judgemental but those same people are judging too!

Regardless of Lindsay’s past problems (and I am no fan of hers), she is allowed to have an OPINION, which is what she is stating..

I don’t hate Palin because I’m stuck on Obama. I hate her because she goes against everything that is right. I am not against Christianity in general, but I think extremism in any direction is wrong. I think that Palin is extremely dangerous. The reason it matters, is because John McCain is an old man, and it’s not outside the realm of possibility that he could die in office and Sarah Palin WOULD become president. That is what has people terrified.

It cracks me up to hear Lindsay Lohan speak about politics, if anything she is helping the McCain campaign. Most people do not like Lindsay anymore or Pam Anderson for that matter, I am not sure who these actresses think they are. They have not done anything for this country except make money from movies they’ve made or did sex tapes etc. So why would anyone look up to such people, we need some role models on tv and on the big screen. Not actresses who do drugs & party all night. Obama is against gay marriages also, it is not just McCain. I am not sure who I am voting for, but I will not vote for Obama just because Lindsay Lohan says it is the right thing to do, I think everyone could care less about what she has to say. Just my opinion.

Jessica, there are so many problems with your arguments that I can’t possibly address them all, but I’ll try a few.

The point I was making is that arguments stand on their own. It makes no difference whether they were made by Lindsey Lohan or by the Pope. Refusing to listen to an argument because it’s made by someone you dislike is just an excuse for closing your mind to arguments opposite to your position.

I never said you “can’t learn if you don’t listen to Lindsey” in particular. I said you can’t learn if you refuse to listen to arguments because you don’t agree with the person making the arguments in general. Also, I never made an argument that you should listen to only “one human being”. In fact, I was making the precisely opposite argument.

You state that people “hate” Palin because they are “stuck on” Obama. Maybe this is true for some, it’s certainly not true for all. And in any case it makes no difference at all. There are many strong arguments made against the nomination of Palin, it makes no difference who has made these arguments or what other opinions they hold. Again, arguments stand on their own.

I wasn’t “fighting against you” or trying to change your beliefs. I’ve debated enough people with this type of great conviction in their particular faiths to know that there is no argument to change that. I was simply pointing out that saying you “believe in the Bible” makes just as much sense as saying that “colorless green ideas sleep furiously”. It’s simply a statement that has no meaning. It’s only possible to believe in a particular interpretation of the Bible – whether it’s your own or stems from an older tradition.

What do you think about abortion, homosexuality or polygamy? I’ve heard equally convincing cases for both sides of these arguments from people describing themselves as faithful Christians, all backed up by passages from the Bible.

Finally, you don’t need to be a Christian to find the Bible, and the numerous belief systems built around it, fascinating.

No, I won’t listen to her because of the way she lives. That’s not the way I want to live my life, but Palin seems to value life way more than Lohan. I wish you were a believer. I suggest you learn ethics, just because I’m a Christian who tries her best to live by God’s word, you fight against me? I have a right to say what I believe and so do you. That doesn’t mean you can sway me, I stand strong in my beliefs. I understand that the bible has been translated, I know there have been books left out. It is still the living word, and I will follow it until death. I know plenty about the bible, but I’m also still learning. If you are so fascinated by it why aren’t you a Christian? The bible is something I BELIEVE in. Don’t tell me what I do believe in cause you have no idea..Lindsey might have morals, I don’t know. But they way she lives her life, isn’t a way I want to live. I understand she has a right to say what she wants, but I don’t have to agree with her, that’s my right just as much as anyone elses. You all just hate Palin because your stuck on Obama, and you believe he is So much better. Get off your high horse and open your eyes. You have a right to your beliefs, but don’t try and change my opinion because you never will. I stand firm in my faith. By the way, your telling me I can’t learn if I don’t listen to Lindsey? But if we all listened to one human being we’d all be stupid. I didn’t know she was a philosopher… but then again everyone’s a philosopher in their own way. It’s pretty nice talking to you atheists. It really helps me to be an even stronger Christian. I’ll pray for you.

Jessica, I suggest you pick up some introductory book on ethics so that you won’t make such nonsensical statements as “Palin has morals” and Lindsey doesn’t.

You “won’t listen to her because you don’t agree with her”? How can you ever learn anything new with that attitude? Having a long held position changed through a strong, convincing argument is one of the greatest experiences one can have.

Furthermore, all this Bible talk is nauseating. Pick any moral question and you can construct a case based on the Bible for two exactly opposite positions on it. The Bible is not something you “believe in”, that’s another nonsensical statement. What you believe in is a particular interpretation – interpretation by human beings.

As a non-believer who finds the Bible endlessly fascinating and who has studied most passages many, many times, I find it shocking how little people with absolute convictions and faith actually know about it.

It’s pretty obvious that you don’t believe in the bible, that’s your problem not mine, Jesus won’t turn his back on me when I die. Palin isn’t evil, she’s a good woman. Sorry she’s smart. Wolves in Alaska are a big problem. They aren’t in low numbers there like you seem to think. If your ever face to face with a wolf don’t think for a second that wolf won’t kill you. It’s nature,we’re on top for a reason. I also wasn’t judging anyone, I won’t listen to her because I don’t agree with her!! I don’t know her values, but I know mine and yes they are in the bible. If you don’t like it, that’s your problem. You should honestly try to read it. I feel for you. You seem so cold and bitter. I don’t know what’s made you that way, but I’m sorry for you. The bible has been changed books have been left out, I know that, but it doesn’t keep me from believing in God. It is ultimately his word. You have to trust in it. God can assure me that the bible is faithful. I’m sorry you have a hard time with this but don’t you dare try and turn my back from God cause you’ll never succeed I pray that you turn to God one day before it’s too late. You have got to be kidding me? Who gives a rats butt what Lindsay Lohan has to say about the next Vice President of the most powerful country in the world. When she gets a real job and can stay sober for more than a weekend, maybe then will I give her the little attention she needs, but no until then. Wake up America! Lindsay Lohan, what ever! If this is a sign of things to come, South America is looking pretty good right now.

I am sorry, there is a miscommunication here…

What I meant when I wrote ‘puritan’ was, and this is from an English dictionary:
“2. (lowercase) a person who is strict in moral or religious matters, often excessively so. ”

I was not referring to any religion in particular…

And Lindsay’s life is her business…Who am I or you to judge her? If you don’t want to be judged don’t judge others, just because they don’t live by your rules! Who said your values are better than hers? Just because it’s in the bible?
Well I don’t believe in the bible! Does that make you a better person than me? Where is the original manuscript of the bible? Do you know into how many languages the bible has been translated? Do you know that no matter how good a translation is, there are always changes in the target text? So who can assure you that what you are reading in the bible is faithful to the original? Do you now how many times it has been revised? And who wrote the bible? Were they impartial? Give me a break!!

As far as I know Lindsay hasn’t hurt anyone has she? On the other hand I can’t say the same about palin who has done a lot of evil – for instance: This year the Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game will exterminate 1,400 bears out of a population of 2,000 in an area west of Anchorage. The Alaskan Board of Game even approved the hunting of black bear mothers and cubs with the goal of killing 60 percent of the black bear population. Although biologists have known since the 60′s that predators actually keep prey populations healthy, Alaskan wolves and bears are being exterminated (using cruel practices such as baiting, trapping, and aerial shooting) to boost dwindling moose populations.

Oh, and by the way I am not a Lindsay’s fan…
