even if a company is making an effort it's not worth it if the product isn't totally clean because so many other companies have clean so why shouldn't Kiehls?

Labelling is a tricky business. I used to be a chemist that worked on food labels as well as work in retail for a large scale "natural" cosmetic line. The thing about labels, especially that of a cosmetic product is that the regualtions are quite loose. Many companies will change their fomulas to reduce the amount of chemical preservatives to avoid having to list it on the label. If natural food based ingredients are used, and it is a product that is produced on a large scale, and no preservatives are listed on the label this makes me skeptical. I don't know much about Kiel's formulations, but it may be that they are using a level of those ingredients that is below what the FDA requires but they choose to list it anyway in order to fully disclose their ingredients. Paraben free in cosmetics often means the same thing as fat free in foods, it does not mean there are no parabens at all, it just means that there may not be enough of them to require the company to place them on the label. If something is made from food grade ingredients and wasn't refridgerated when you purchased it, be skeptical that preservative free is truly preservative free.

i didn't want to say anything before because i figured kiehl's was trying to do the right thing, but , over the years, i've found these products anything but "healthy" as jamie pointed out many have parabens and other possible cancer causing ingredients. i work in the eco beauty industry and would never recommend kiehl's. feel free to look it up on one of the many non profit groups that tests carcinogens in the products and it does not rate well. even burt's bees' tends to rate much better.

sad but true :(

i was really disappointed last year when i purchased some kiehl's mens items online for my husband and when they arrived they were FULL of parabens, dimethicone, etc. From what i had read on websites and magazines, i was led to believe they were a "natural" company--not true. i don't plan to buy kiehl's again--i'll stick with burt's bees now, thanks very much.
