Colbert Wonders If The Chevy Volt Should Be The Chevy Gore

On Wednesday night’s The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert had Bob Lutz, GM’s Vice Chairman of Global Product Development, on the show and grilled him on the new electric Chevy Volt. The vehicle –  which will go 40 miles alone on electricity before a small generator kicks in to extend the range — was unveiled in its production form earlier this week.

Lutz, who took a bit to shrug off his corporate stiffness, managed to fair pretty well in the face of Colbert’s hilarious right-wing attacks. Questions such as “Isn’t the Volt just an admission that global warming is real?” and “Why he didn’t call the car the Chevy Gore?” made Lutz backstep a bit — even causing him to discuss the inane theory that global warming is due to sunspots. Even better, when asked by Colbert if the Volt will get him laid, Lutz said yes, but the girls he will attract will be “the very nice, no-makeup types.” Whoa.

    I always said encvironmentalists are technical morons, and Colbert is the perfect example of same. Those sunspots
    portend global COOLING, morons. Get your
    superstitions straight, please. The theory is from a revered astrophysicist, not some Comedy Channel “personality.”
    Ask Mr Colbert to explain why sunspot
    minima that is now occuring (first time in 100 years that a month passed without a sunspot) will differ from the past (sunspot minima ALWAYS preced global cooling – ditto before the Little Ice Age). Those looking to carbon are morons – carbon emissions are “a drop in the bucket”. Sunspots are an indication of magnetic radiation levels and those have an afffect on cloud formations, and cloud formations, for you global warming true believers, are FAR more potent determininents of global temps – water vapor accounts for 98% of the greenhouse gas effect, whilecarbon dioxide only 1%.
    OK , fellas, explain why none of the clmatologists models that are supposedly predicting global warming are able to model water vapor systems? Answer : it’s too complicated for the primitive models they are using. Keep believing in that global warming, people. And, oh, by the way, the Earth’s temps have been lower than normal each of the past 10 years. Now, why do you suppose that is?

    I often wonder whether there’s a woman on the panet who doesn’t feel the urge to throw up when the very ugly Mr Colbert appears on the screen. I just laugh at his patently paid-for “humor”
    and once again was rewarded when he came up with such predictable shatter while Lutz was on stage. Oh, by the way – you folks have your sunspot theories confused – there’s a “good sunspot theory,” which has predicted with 100% accuracy every cooling period over the past 500 years, and then there’s the “bad sunspot theory” that some advanced to account for supposed global warming. Am I going to have a really good laugh when the current carbon baseed nonsensical global warming theory goes up in smoke. I predict that climatologists will be forced to bury their current theory in about 18 months.
    The environmentalists will look just as clueless as they do now, having blocked nucelar power and caused enormous increase in carbon emissions. Isn’t it amazing that Cobert never mentions that?

    Isn’t also true that the sun is the source of all life on Earth, the source of our energy and our soul, and that perhaps the reason why it’s getting hotter, is becaue there’s more and more of us on this planet, and its activity is directly proportioned to the pull our collective consciousness has on its inner furnace… ;o)

    This said, isn’t it amazing how spiteful of the Volt Bob Lutz really is, and that you really get the feeling wathing this that he’s been pressured into selling what he ultimately thinks, and I agree with him, a peice of crap… a pale knew jerk to the Tesla, which is as fun and brilliant a vehicle as the Volt is tart and dull!

    I would have loved to have seen Lutz’ face had Colbert asked him why he’s pushing an inferior car that gets 100 miles less per charge than the one they trashed 10 years ago… and why the patent to the battery that powered the EV1 is now in the hands of a big oil company.

    And if it’s impossible to create a car that does better than 40 miles per charge… why could a new company like Tesla manage to squeeze 244 miles and a 0 to 60 speed of 3.9 seconds… and release their car to the general public FIRST?

    While Bob looked the fool with his disbelief in global warming being caused by C02 emmissions… I think it would have been funnier to put him on the ropes about why GM has been purposefully holding back technology so their buddies could sell more oil.

    OMG LMAO! Lutz is such a maroon! The public relations people at GM must have fallen out of their chairs when they saw how Colbert exposed Lutz’s insincerity about the car and who would drive it. More of GM’s bullshit greenwashing!

    I saw let these failing companies die and quick death and I SURE AS HELL DON’T WANT A DIME OF MY TAXES BAILING THEM OUT! The horrible auto companies have had DECADES
