Maybe Victoria Beckham won’t have to take vegetarian cooking classes after all! Ecorazzi told you earlier that the McCartney family was planning a “very personal project” to expand the Linda McCartney Foods brand and it looks like they’ve already begun.

The company has just released a vegetarian version of “mince.” Don’t know what mince is? Yeah, me neither! However, a thorough wikipedia search validated my assumption that mince is the kind of meat found in mince meat pies. The product is not only vegetarian, fat-free and high in both protein and fiber, but it’s also packaged in a fully biodegradable bag. Awesome!

The McCartney family said: “Linda inspired countless people around the world to go meat-free. Linda was so passionate about demonstrating how delicious vegetarian food could be. She was a great believer that there is just as much taste and flavor in a meal that’s meat free.”

The Vegetarian Mince will be launched exclusively at J Sainsbury’s on 22nd September 2008, priced at £1.75; it will then be available in Waitrose from the end of November 08. Since I don’t even have a passport (I know, I know) it doesn’t look like I’m gonna be able to sample the product. So if any of you Brits out there get a chance, grab some McCartney Mince and tell us how it is! Gracias!

I recently tried Stella’s skincare line and quite liked it. I’d check out Linda’s food line. Like mother like daughter.

They looked so young and sweet. She was more than likely his one true love. So sad that she passed. Also sad that he got tricked by ol’ nutty butt Heather Mills. Hopefully, things will work out well with Nancy Shevell, the new girlfriend.

Not such a “new” idea. While I was volunteering in Jamaica, I’d eat veggie mince all the time. (Good recipe: http://www.caribbeanchoice.com/recipes/recipe.asp?recipe=285) Veggie chunks were better. Kind of weird though, you just re-hydrated them…and they had a ton of salt in them.

I don’t think anyone said it was a “new” idea. Just a new product in her food line that didn’t exist before.

To the other Brandi.. It sounds like you’re referring to TVP, textured vegetable protein, which has been around forever. That was the old school predecessor that people who have been vegetarians for a really, really long time (I know I was eating it 20 years ago) were eating. It really does not compare to the modern processes out there. I have no idea what exactly mince is supposed to be like, but TVP wasn’t really all that great in comparison to what is out there now.

Eh? But vegetarian mince has been available for years! Decades even, as I remember my mother buying it in an act of despearation after I made my first veggie stand as a kid back in the ’80s.

I did think the Linda McCartney brand already sold it, but perhaps not: You can certainly get Quorn mince (I bought a pack this very morning to make spag bols, yum yum) and most big supermarkets in the UK do their own version made out of TVP.

I luv Linda McCartney delicious dishes.

Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) mince has been around since I was a meat refusing child, and I remember trying Quorn mince in my 20s (now mid 40s – ouch!). I wasn’t so keen on Quorn as it contains egg (albumen) which I don’t like to eat. The LM mince is the best type of mince I’ve found to date. I’ve served it to both my partner and son and, despite being meat eaters, they’ve both enjoyed it.

Can you let me know where I can purchase the LM vegetarian mince here in the US? Even the Whole Foods here people don’t seem to know what it is! Is there a recipe for it?
    Thanks!
