Madonna’s “Get Stupid” Video Tells Us To Act

Damnit, I wish she would listen to her own message.

September 19th 2008

Last month, I noted the irony of Madonna’s tour showing her “Get Stupid” video featuring montages of the Earth’s destruction — while simultaneously contributing to that very act. As far as we, or anyone else can tell, the material girl has done absolutely nothing with her “Sticky and Sweet” tour to take the sustainable high road.

Which makes this video all the more maddening.

Thanks Linton!

  1. Yeah right… Do as I sing, don’t do as I do!

With all that money and influence, this is the best she can do?

    OK… :(

  2. Great post. I’ve lost what little respect I had left for this hypocritical material girl.

  3. Good point. She is clearly just jumping on the latest bandwagon for appearances only.

  4. First of all she should stop sporting fur!

  5. Yes, she should stop wearing fur too.

    Just another celebrity hypocrite….

  6. The video isn’t just about environmental change. Didn’t she fund an orphanage or something?

But you’re right; it would be cool if her tour website touted eco-creds.

I hope she remembers to put her absentee ballot in the mail since she’ll be on tour for the Nov election.

  7. Madonna has long based a large amount of her brand on selling herself in the right light. If she thinks she’ll get just enough good press with the average CD buyer (you know the ones that never check up on the information they’re spoon fed in commercials) then she’ll do just that – and nothing else.

Which is why she’s saying one thing and making no efforts whatsoever to live up to what she says. Enough people aren’t actually protesting her in a way she understands – like the sound of two tenspots rubbing together.

  8. OK i gotta give you some behind-the-scenes gossip– on MADonna’s last tour she drove everyone crazy who had to deal with her. Among the oddities she demanded was that anyone who handles her backstage stuff (like, hauls in a couch, or mirror) has to wear surgical gloves AT ALL TIMES!!! The there was the water, which had to be a special water from France (if it wasn’t there she would not be a happy camper) and it wasn’t for drinking, it was for her tea (they bring Kaballah water for her drinking)… but the best of all was that Madge demands that her bathroom comes with a BRAND NEW TOILET SEAT! it has to be plastic wrapped, and only her personal handlers are allowed to unwrap the plastic.

..apparently this annoyed one crew who did a few shows with her, so after the concert, at the staff party, they replaced the toilet seat with Madonna’s very own used seat, and invited everyone to sit on the queen’s thrown….

New seat every concert! it’s not very green (sure it pales compared to the lights, diesel, flights, non orgainc t-schwag, wasted food….. but still)

    LINTON ROCKS! ECORAZZI ROCKS!

  9. The video is brilliant, Madonna has the freedom of expressing like she want, and the video expresses really the injustices of this world, Hypocrite? NOT, realist

  10. Madonna is doing many charitable reasons, she is involved in the fight against the AIDS years ago. the Hypocrite is the person that not wanna open the eyes.

  11. That is so wrong and not good doesn’t tell much about it.

  12. what exactly have YOU done?

  13. I think we should be pleased that video is trying to promote green (and other) issues. The film will be watched by thousands of her fans – some ofd which are likely to hang on every word she says. If it causes just a few of them to make more positive choices in their life – that’s a good thing in my books.
