An Evening Under The Harvest Moon With Tree People

October 20th 2008

Given the bleak state of your 401k these days, how does a big fat check from Disney for $1.5 million dollars sound?  Pretty great, huh?  But, would YOU use it to reforest fire-ravaged terrain in the mountains surrounding the greater Los Angeles area?  Somehow I didn’t think so… Well, me neither (um, can you say SHOES need a home, too?)!  But then again, we’re not Andy Lipkis, Founder and President of Tree People, a non-profit devoted to helping nature heal our cities.

Last Saturday’s 21st annual An Evening Under the Harvest Moon (yeah, the post is delayed… been busy, people) was an all out par-tay under a nearly full-moon. Hosted at Tree People’s newly constructed learning center along scenic Mulholland Drive, an array of rhythmic music echoed through the canyon as guests bid on silent auction items.  And for those of us who are nibblers as well as bidders, there was tons organic cuisine, provided by various local restaurants.  What’s a party without some libations? So, of course there was delish wine to sip as guests toured the spectacular new grounds.

Under the canopy of trees in the outside amphitheater, yours truly hosted an intimate conversation with Andy Lipkis. Borrowing a page from Inside the Actor’s Studio, we asked Andy what he’d like to hear from God if heaven really does exit… he said he wanted to know that he was right! Oh and we found out that his favorite curse word is f$#*k. Who knew? Well, now ya know!
