The only thing I know really well about Newark, New Jersey is that it has an airport. That, and there are lots of ‘colorful’ descriptions of the area online. Perhaps they are justified, as the Sundance Channel is reportedly developing a new documentary of the city and the problems it’s facing.
Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker is said to be on board to assist Sundance with the new series. Reuters is reporting that Whitaker might have a voice-over role — with producing credits as well.
“Whitaker, the Oscar-winning star of “The Last King of Scotland,” will serve as an executive producer with the series’ directors, Marc Levin (“Slam”) and Mark Benjamin (“The Last Party”).
With regards to how in the world all this might relate to green, the series is said to address and seek solutions to some of the environmental problems faced by the city; as well as violence, education, and poverty. Look for it to debut in 2009 with an initial order of six half-hour episodes.
