Funny man Fred Willard has teamed up with PETA to show his commitment to never buying an animal from a pet store or breeder. Fred and his wife have been outspoken animal advocates for years and Ecorazzi was lucky enough to meet the power duo earlier this year and praise them for their advocacy.

The truth is that  the vast majority of dogs sold in pet shops are raised in “puppy mills,” breeding kennels located mostly in the Midwest that are notorious for their cramped, crude, and filthy conditions and for their continuous breeding of unhealthy and hard-to-socialize animals. Add that to the fact that 5 million dogs and cats are killed yearly in U.S. shelters and it’s obvious why you should always adopt a rescued animal!

Check out Fred’s video below and don’t forget to visit PETA to find out more!

Horses are in the same situation. None of these domesticated animals wouldn’t exist without us, we have a responsibility to take care of them.

As far as I’m concerned, adoption is the only choice. If we quit supporting unfit breeders, they will quit producing unhealthy animals.

I believe most people’s attitude when getting a pet or companion animal is they want a puppy of this or that specific breed. And that’s their excuse for getting the animal through a breeder. They don’t realize that with a little effort you can find exactly what you are looking for in the shelter and rescue system.

With the state of the economy I hope that this reaches people who were thinking of buying a dog or cat. I know I wouldn’t be out buying something that was free!
