Embarking with the Sea Shepherd Society this week on a crash course with the Japanese whaling fleet, Daryl Hannah criticized Greenpeace for failing to send their own vessel. While not as bold in their tactics as Sea Shepherd, Greenpeace in previous years has monitored the hunt and kept tabs on Japanese actions. For the first time his year, they’ve decided to instead focus on swaying public opinion in Japan. This has upset the 48-year-old actress.
“If Greenpeace would join forces with Sea Shepherd they would shutdown the whaling industry right away. If they were really serious and held their convictions they could accomplish this,” Hannah told Australian Associated Press.
For her part, Hannah will only be involved for the first week of Sea Shepherd’s campaign. Captain Paul Watson expects to be at sea disrupting the whaling hunt until March. Interestingly, however, the LA Times is reporting that Hannah hinted she may join the crew at a later date in the campaign after fulfilling work obligations.
