Jennifer Connelly Chats Up Her Green Habits, New Film

December 11th 2008

jenn_earthWith The Day The Earth Stood Still hitting the media circuits, we’re getting a bit more information about the green habits of the film’s stars. Actress Jennifer Connelly recently revealed that while she’s conscious of her footprint, her husband is a much better environmental steward than she is. “We drive around in a Prius, we recycle and we use energy-saving light bulbs. Although Paul I have to confess is better at it than I am. He always berates me if I forget and leave a light on in the kitchen and goes and shuts it off,” she said.

As we mentioned in the previous post, the film is light on the preachy tone of its predecessor — something Connelly admits was avoided from the beginning. “It’s about aggression, greed and selfishness, and the fact that we can’t keep treating each other like this and treating the planet like this,” she said. “It’s unsustainable. I think while you’re watching it, you’re not feeling like you’re watching an issue film or you’re being preached to. But you walk out and it’s still provocative.”

[Update: For those of you curious, Connelly is also a vegan.]

[Update 2: Actually, she isn't. Perhaps I should read our own posts sometimes...]

  1. Are we sure she’s vegan? Or was this just on a website somewhere? Could you ask her about it? I’ve looked for real confirmation but can’t find much.

  2. Give this woman a pat on the back. She is such a saint… she is a green icon for all of us… This woman is green? this woman went from Vegan to Omnivore because she had cravings… This is just plain dumb. She ain’t green. They should make a documentary and call it “The day her will got ill.”

  3. The original The Day The Earth Stood Still was about violence, world peace and nuclear proliferation. They should have stuck with the plot of the original. I honestly don’t know what a storm of nano-crickets eating steel road signs has to do with protecting nature. The whole thing seems to have been scripted on the back of a paper napkin. I hope people are curious enough to pick up the 1953 film, which was brilliant.
