Matt Damon is the voice and producer of a new documentary that follows the trek of three ultramarathon runners and their quest to conquer the Sahara. Titled Running The Sahara, the film is a grueling capture of running 4,300 miles in 111 days (the equivalent of 170 marathons in a row) across the Sahara desert, from the eastern edge of Senegal to the shores of the Red Sea in Egypt. Needless to say, Damon got the better end of the deal when it came to making this documentary!

Of course, this isn’t just a film about running. Charlie Engle, one of the participants, is also a co-founder of the H20 Africa project. He and Damon formed the charity to help provide clean drinking water to communities around Africa. Throughout the film, plugs for the charity — and the issues faced by those living in the region — are used to round out the story of three guys becoming the first to run across the Sahara.
