[...] As an update to an earlier article we posted during the week, Plenty Magazine is apparently disappearing off the map. Through Gawker, we originally heard that the environmental magazine was going to continue on through their web presence. However, now new information given to the Razz is pointing to a full-on liquidation. All staff is being let go without severance and the website is dying along with the print magazine.
oh, what a shame! i really enjoyed PLENTY (and will continue to online). though i do most of my periodical reading electronically... i always looked forward to picking up a PLENTY in the grocery line - they'd honed the perfect combination of information, style and eco-driven inspiration. good luck to the remaining staff & those who've found themselves moving on to the next thing!

No magazine in America over, say, 30,000 circ can call itself green...so while it's sad and painful, I personally think, having just gone through it, that the movement online is a great thing. The question will be whether magazines and papers (like CSM) can maintain editorial integrity in the fast-paced, ill-researched echo chamber that is so much of the world wide web: http://www.elephantjournal.com/2009/01/forest-fire-the-great-magazine-burn-off-of-2008-9-plenty-christian-science-monitor-elephant-journal-alpinist-backpacker/
