Last year was the first time that HGTV added a “green home” giveaway to their already legendary “dream home” giveaway. We were delighted to see such attention being paid to sustainable design — since the annual dream homes were generally behemoths of excess. We did, however, have one beef with the organizers with their inclusion of a massive Yukon Hybrid SUV for the winner. Even in hybrid form, it was only rated for 20mpg — not to mention the fact that pairing a giant SUV with a green home was a bit of a enigma.

In the end, with over 21 million entries, Marsha Coulthard of Bradenton, Fla. was declared the winner of the first HGTV green home. SUV aside, we’re happy to see them continue the contest with 2009’s green home being built in the utopia-like Tradition, Florida. They’ve even launched an eco blog of sorts to keep you up to speed on the construction of the home — as well as your standard green tips for healthy living. Now word yet on what type of vehicle is being offered to the winner.

So far, few details about the home are known — but stay tuned as more energy-efficient features are revealed. Once the entries open up, we’ll let you know so that the next Ecorazzi bash is at your new home! We’ll bring the dip.

  1. Maybe this year, they’ll include a BMW Hydrogren 7. Not likely, but one can dream, right?
