At the Green Inaugural Ball on Saturday night in Washington, DC, Hayden Panettiere told the crowd that the Obama administration should join other governments in address whaling. “Lessen the amount,” she said. “If not completely get rid of whaling. Because it’s unnecessary.”
The Heroes actress and longtime anti-whaling activist has been working with the Whaleman Foundation to help promote their Save The Whales Again! campaign. She also revealed that Barack Obama and her have already had conversations regarding the issue. “I’ve actually talked to him about it before,” she said. “He was raised in Hawaii, so I think he would agree with me about [protecting marine life].” Then she added: “[But] I’m not going to speak for him.”
Panettiere is also working on a documentary with the Whaleman Foundation to further educate the public. She added, “There’s movement [on this issue] every day — just generating awareness, which is the best way to stop it because a lot of people are unaware of what actually goes on.”
