Val Kilmer’s latest obscure movie comes to us in The Thaw, an eco-horror tale where climate change is the catalyst for unleashing a frozen threat.
We finally have our first peek at the flick with a trailer that goes about 30 seconds too long and basically sums up everything you figured this movie was about. We’re also pretty sure that Kilmer’s character is one of the first to “bite” it, since he doesn’t show up past the first minute of preview goodness. Still, the concept of some killer bug emerging from a frozen woolly mammoth is kind of intriguing. And there are explosions. And polar bears. And stupid people that touch things they shouldn’t.
So, we’ll call it a solid “rental”.

Val Kilmer is a terrible actor. I think the last movie i saw him in that he actually showed emotion was Willow. lol
And this sounds like a lame rip of of “The Thing” and eve steals the font XD
Val Kilmer is an excellent actor (and an excellent poet and musician) who gives much emotion and depth to every character and every performance. This review is obviously biased against Val, so I hope people with sense will see the movie before they judge it.
He is also one of the kindest and most generous people in the world, and always great with interacting with fans.
Also, Val does so much good for noble humanitarian and environmental charities and causes.
Michael, do you want to bum Val Kilmer?
the Yawn…
Lol at Duncan and Herwin.
I’m not saying he is a bad person (or musician or poet ect), I’m saying he is a bad actor. I’m sorry i just disagree about the whole emotion and depth thing, and not just to side with this “biased” post.
Yeah, There is an X-Files episode just like this called Ice. LAME!
This film has the production values of a college project. Somebody cared enough to produce this film, hoping that blending an environmental message into another run of the mill horror exploitation film would reach an audience of viewers otherwise not exposed to the threats of climate change. It’s a laudable effort. It reminded me a little of a 1974 Peter Fonda film called Idaho Transfer, which is finally out on DVD. Check it out!
at least martha macissac (hottt) is in it
