Harrison Ford, Prince Charles, Cate Blanchett To Star In New Rainforest Film

January 22nd 2009

ford_rainforestIn a first for the British royal family, Prince Charles is set to join celebrities Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett in a new ad campaign to stop deforestation. The initiative is set to benefit the Prince’s Rainforest Project and encourage people to “sign up” and help defend these natural areas.

According to sources, the film is still in the early stages of production but will feature several dignitaries and celebrities in addition to the above. The goal is to rally together international companies, NGOs and the public to try to put a halt to tropical deforestation.

Back in May, Harrison Ford starred in a short film for Conservation International to highlight deforestation — by having his chest hair waxed. Something tells us Prince Charles will not be game to give that a go!

More on this as we find it!

  1. I hope they can do something that actually works – did you see that article on msnbc that states rain forest patches the size of 300 football fields are being depleted every hour in Indonesia? It has to end.

  2. Sting, the Dead, the Rainforest Action Network and Alliance… years and years… and still, nothing substantial has taken hold.

What will it take for the governments and industries of this planet to realize you can’t just keep destroying our lungs and expect the biosphere to renew and restore itself.

At this point, nothing short of a global green super force, something like Wild Aid, will be able to stop the damage we are doing to our life support system. We are committing mass suicide which translates into mass genocide, and all because on a local level, none of these green Hollywood intentions have any impact at all.

The solution? If we’re going to save the planet we better find one, and quickly. Many already think it’s too late and have thrown in the towel. We have to isolate the reasons why these forests are being destroyed, and remove them from the economy, which is what the green economy is doing, but it’s not growing quickly enough.

There’s not enough LIVE media coming from within rainforests, it’s too far for direct action. Earth First! should set up an office in Brazilia!!! That would be effective. Perhaps the money raised could go to sponsor more Green Corps activism.
