Comedian Russell Brand has stepped forward to help save a charity that helped save him from drugs and alcohol abuse. Called Focus 12, the UK organization was facing closure after its government grant was cut. Brand, who once attended the treatment center for drug addiction, immediately donated an undisclosed sum and offered to lead two fundraising events. From the article,
“Russell has certainly saved us from having to close,” said Chip Somers, chief executive of Focus12, last night. “He has certainly given us some breathing space to try and locate some future funding and with the prospect of raising money for the next year we hope we are safe.”
Nice to see people give back to places that supported them through rough times. Kind of reminds me of Brand’s character in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Aldus Snow, who sang that we need to “do something”. In fact, here it is below. Enjoy!
