sagawards_greenAt least one major awards show in Hollywood is continuing to incorporate green into production. The 2009 SAG Awards, which were held last night in Los Angeles, championed a focus on recycling and composting for a zero-waste event. Organizers teamed up with the Environmental Media Association to start what they hope will make for a more sustainable production each year from this point forward. “Reducing the environmental impact of the SAG Awards was an important goal for us this year,” explained SAG Awards Producer Kathy Connell. “The Environmental Media Association´s expertise and support has been instrumental in helping us take steps to achieve that objective. We are pleased to have begun such a productive partnership as we strive to ´go green.´”

Some of the highlights included an awards stage and red carpet that will be recycled and reused each year, composting (or donating) of all food and flowers, recycled paper printing, and local, fresh, organic, humanely treated and sustainable ingredients. Even the stage crew will receive a reusable gift bag with green goodies.

Will the 2009 Oscars follow suit? Congrats to SAG and EMA on their successful green partnership!
