Lately, actress Ashley Judd is kicking ass and taking names!
Earlier today Judd gave a spirited talk before several hundred people who oppose strip mining Appalachian Mountains for coal at the annual “I Love Mountains” event.
Judd said: “Let me be clear. Mountaintop removal mining is a tragedy. Mountaintop removal mining is a scourge on our land and our people. It’s killing our mountains – the very thing that produced us.”
Judd was at the event to promote a bill sponsored by Rep. Don Pasley, that’s been held up in the House Natural Resources and Environment Committee for four years. The “stream saver” bill would restrict waste rock blasted from the sides and tops of mountains from being placed in the upper reaches of hollows, where natural streams are being buried.
The coal industry isn’t very happy about this proposed bill. I mean are you really surprised?
