Disneynature’s U.S. “Earth” Release A Remix Of The Original

Unlike Discovery Channel’s Planet Earth series, it appears that Disneynature’s Earth documentary will receive more than just a change of narrator for the U.S. release. According to a source, never-before-seen footage is being incorporated in with the original international release. In addition, James Earl Jones (who replaces the original’s Patrick Stewart) will be reading a new script; though the dueling-trailers would have us believe otherwise.

And for those that have seen some of this footage before in Planet Earth — you’re right! There are pieces from that series in Earth — as both docs were filmed by Alastair Fothergill. Nevertheless, seeing this in a giant theatre as opposed to the home television will be pretty incredible. Look for it on Earth Day next month.

    As we begin to replace nature with videos of nature, does anybody else worry that eventually we’ll be left with only images and none of the real thing? Shows like Planet Earth reach broad audiences and, perhaps, awaken awareness in some, but I don’t believe that eco-videos can inspire biophilia (see Edward Wilson), and isn’t that what we’re going to need more than anything to innovate in ways that reinsert us into natural cycles?

    docs certainly raise awarenes especially at children who will grow up with these images but yeah, you are right, over half a century we might have only video images (and stuffed ones in the museum and some poor bastards in the zoos) of so many animals including unique animals like the polar bears, its sad and a disgrace for us people.
    but docs proved their value in raising awarenes at the right time for saving elephants, tigers, whales and many other animals that were critically endangered just a few decades ago.
