IKEA — makers of easy-to-assemble home furniture that you inevitably end up wanting — has put together a countdown viral site for what appears to be the unveiling of a new, eco-friendly car. As some on the web have speculated, this is more than likely a Swedish ruse — especially since the countdown ends suspiciously on April 1st.
If you head to the site, you’ll be greeted by the vehicle’s supposed designer, Christophe Grozs, who goes into light details on this new environmentally-friendly concept car — called the Leko. Website Jalopnik does some interpretation of the French intro saying “the car is a modular design which can operate as a coupe or as a convertible, and has the full backing of the World Wildlife Fund France, whatever that means.”
Ok, so we know WWF is involved with this — which is not surprising considering IKEA’s commitment to environmental practices. But what exactly do they have in store for us come April 1st?
As an aside, I just had to share some of the hilarious comments being throw around regarding this IKEA car. Here are some of the best from Jalopnik:
“I’m sure it looks awesome in the showroom, but then you get it home and realize it’s like a 60% scale version of real furniture.”
“Imagine all the trees that will have to die to make that car out of particleboard. The WWF might be backing them up, but Greenpeace is pissed.”
“So Saab’s new owner has finally been revealed.”
