carrie underwood, cma awards

Despite the best efforts of groups like the The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, Carrie Underwood prevailed last night in winning the Academy of Country Music Awards coveted “Entertainer of the Year” honor. Pro-hunting organizations like the ‘Sportsmen’ have been promoting campaigns against the singer ever since she announced that profits from the sales of her new song Home Sweet Home would go towards the Humane Society of the United States.

With the CMAs offering online voting for the first time, the ‘Sportsmen’ encouraged members to vote for “anyone but Underwood” in the category. As word spread like fire through Twitter and websites, fans of the singer and those that support her mission to help animals came out in droves to counter the offensive. Of course, with such passionate backing from both sides over something that has nothing do with music, we wonder if the CMA’s will allow online voting again next year.

Either way, congratulations Carrie on the honor! Your compassion for animals and support of organizations like the HSUS is an inspiration to many. More info on her big night available here.

all this bollocks makes me so pissed, that i almost want to buy her single just because these morons don’t want me too and are trying so hard to demonize her.

i am not a fan of her music personally, but good for her on sticking to her guns and winning last night….in their face!

Congratulations to Carrie Underwood! She deserves to support causes she believes in without harassment from the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance.
