PETA is taking the animal rights fight to the virtual world of War of Warcraft!
Apparently, there are four “Horde seal killers” running wild and clubbing seals. These beasties are then selling the furs for large amounts of virtual currency. PETA isn’t having any of this and apparently has quite a few members that are regular WoW players ready to defend the virtual baby seals. From the blog,
That’s right, gamers, get ready: This Saturday, World of Warcraft (WoW) players will have the opportunity to combat a team of four Horde seal killers. We need your help to stop them from bashing in the heads of any more seals! Thrall refused to ban the slaughter of seals, despite multiple requests from the Alliance to do so, because Orgrimmar stands to make a large profit from the fur.
Activists from across the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor are banding together to put a stop to the atrocious seal slaughter. Anyone who slaughters baby seals for their fur must surely be in service to the evil Lich King.
Starting this Saturday at 1pm EST, you too can join the masses in setting the stage for a protest (and, most likely, ensuing battle) in the Howling Fjord. Of course, you must have a minimum level of 70 to enter the Fjords — so noobs are SOL.
I’ve tried every angle to mock this — but I think it’s awesome. Geek activists, unite! More details here.

I could not stop giggling the entire time I read this post…my co-workers may be thinking I’m crazy but I don’t care!
this is hilarious.
Now this is an original way of activism!
I don’t care if you like PETA or not but you have to admit that they’ve outdone themselves this time!
Besides, it should be a great and healthy way of releasing your rage against seal hunters by pretending they are real
Well, no matter what I like the idea…
