If you’ve ever wanted a visual representation of the word “desperate”, may I present to you this latest anti-gay marriage ad from a group called Nation For Marriage. As you’ll see, it features actors and actresses discussing their heartaches over laws allowing gays and lesbians to be married — while all the while lightning flashes and heavy, dark clouds swirl all around them in the background. What’s next? Blood-filled rivers? Death and destruction? These groups are an embarrassment to modern society. (For additional laughs, check out the outtakes from the auditions for this ridiculous PSA.)

  3. wow. i can’t even find the words to describe how ridiculous this is. i still can’t quite get over the fact that no reason or logic is ever used in any christian argument. when are christians going to pick up a book other than the bible and find out that marriage is not originally a christian institution? if they don’t oppose non-christian marriages, why do they oppose same sex marriages? simple- they are bigots. it’s complete and utter bigotry. and it’s disgusting. christians are inhibiting the progress of a free-thinking society and we need to keep doing everything we can to stop the nonsense. if you want to be religious, that’s fine. i will always honor your decision to do so. just please please please stay the fuck out of everyone else’s life. we are tired of it. why don’t you get it- we don’t believe what you do. your religious laws don’t mean anything to us. we think god is just as silly as unicorns and leprechauns. and to the person that said “let’s take back the rainbow”- you just showed your bigotry. if you think it’s something you need to take back, it’s pretty much saying “those people aren’t equal to me, they took a symbol i think belongs to me” as if they aren’t just as human as you are. you’ve reduced gays to subhumans with a comment like that and it’s truly reviling.

  4. This is why the government should only issue civil unions. Rewrite all the laws to say civil union instead of marriage, and let the church perform a marriage ceremony.

    That way, Gays get all the legal protection afforded to civil unions, and dumb idiotic conservative christians can turn around and tell their children that those people aren’t married.

  8. I’m really over the whole “If everyone were gay, the human race would die out” argument.

    Extending that line of reasoning, should people who are infertile be denied marriage rights? I mean, if we were all infertile, the human race would die out.

    If I didn’t feel that people getting married at drive through chapels in Vegas threatened my marriage, then I don’t see how Adam and Steve shacking up is going to affect my life in any way.

    And your poor kids thinking homosexuality is normal? They already think 50 hour marriages are normal. That going on a reality show to find a husband is normal, or that cheating on your spouse is normal. How is having gay people that actually WANT to be married and committed to each other giving your kids the wrong idea?

    The argument that redefining marriage is somehow wrong is equally ridiculous. Marriage has been repeatedly redefined throughout the years. And it is NOT historically “between a man and a woman”. At several points throughout history, it has been between a man and SEVERAL women. Since our parents didn’t arrange our marriage, and my father didn’t have to pay out a dowry for me on our wedding day, I’d say redefining marriage to be more in line with our current culture has gone quite well.

    Personally, I’ve always seen religious marriage and legal marriage as two very separate things. I don’t need a piece of paper to tell me that I’m committed to a person, but I do need that piece of paper if I want certain rights. If churches want to not recognize or perform gay marriages, I think that’s well within their rights. Much like many churches won’t marry people if their spouse is of another religion (say, you’re Jewish and your spouse-to-be is Catholic). It’s their right to do that. But the state should be required to.

  14. Not only are these people hateful, they are also ignorant. In the California Constitution, (The section about life rights) states that ” All people are by nature free and independent and have
    inalienable rights. Among these are enjoying and defending life and
    liberty, acquiring, possessing, and protecting property, and pursuing
    and obtaining safety, happiness, and privacy.” in the beginning, but then further down ” Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or
    recognized in California.” How hypocritical is that?

    Also:
    The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ratified in 1976, and agreed to by 47 countries, was passed in order to stop discrimination and the abridging of human rights unconditionally. This bill was ratified by the United States, therefore the protection extends over all US citizens. This declaration states in article two that “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.” Obviously, this includes all people, including homosexuals. This means that any statement on this declaration about marriage or civil unions includes those who are attracted to those of the same gender.  Article one states that “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.” This article clearly states that making laws that create unequal rights is clearly illegal. The part of this historic and immensely important document that concerns marriage is article sixteen. “Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution.” When laws like Amendment Two (Florida) and Proposition Eight (California) are passed, they are not only unconstitutional but also highly discriminatory and illegal through international law.
    And:
    The first amendment of the constitution, which addresses religious freedom and freedom of speech and the press, states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” The part that states ”Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment” means that congress is forbidden to make a law that is based off of religion, meaning that bills such as Proposition 8 and Proposition 102 were unconstitutional before they were even voted on.  The States were founded on the basis of separation of church and state. Also, the fourteenth amendment firmly addresses citizen’s rights: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the
    laws.” This amendment means that you cannot abridge the right of any citizen in any way. Banning gay marriage is cutting off the right to marry of a certain group of citizens. Marriage is an aspect of life, so California, Florida, and Arizona and denying people life by banning gay marriage. As clearly stated in the US constitution, banning gay marriage is illegal.
    This ad is infuriating and reveals the true idiocy behind religion.

No physical or violent harm is result of allowing gays to marry. So let it just be. Be cool, and be open minded… once you shut the door you have lost the ability to respect and learn.

  25. If marriage is about children, then should infertile couples be required to divorce? Should people who don’t want children be disallowed from marrying? What about all the gay couples who adopt children–oh, wait, the religious folks want to stop that also, although the joke goes that once kids come into the house, most of the sex stops.

    Marriage is purely a sociopolitical construct. It is a contract between two people.

    I have never met anyone with such small mindedness. Oh and Hector, to be quite honest: homosexual behavior IS normal. No it’s not the sacred “social norms” that many of us have been subjected in the past, but it doesn’t make it “wrong.” I’m a firm believer that you CAN be born gay, and if my 5 year old son decides he likes to wear dresses then by God let him wear dresses, who is it hurting? Absolutely no one. I’m tired of the homosexual community being persecuted against and feeling the need to hide their true sexuality. Marriage is a constitution that is said to be between a man and a woman because of RELIGIOUS affiliation, I believe the United States Constitution calls for separation of church and state — when are we going to start listening to that?

    Marriage in the sense of the word varies greatly from culture to culture, religion to religion. There is no right definition because of this variation so why not accept a universal definition of “a union between two people in the bonds of love and commitment.”
    Who gives two shits if they are the same sex? It changes nothing about the feelings between them nor the way it effects the rest of society.

    Those people who voted Yes on Prop 8 arent against gay-marriage, for the majority part, but for protecting a union that has been sacred for thousands of years. If you gay people want to have a similar union so be it. call it garried, have all the same rights. But dont make heterosexuals redefine what is theirs for a select few.

    There is the olympics and for the handicap there is the special olympics.
    See instead of having the normal athleats skip on one leg in order to make it fair for the ones with a handicap, they just made another event, called the special olympics with people who do have handicaps.
    Pretty easy solution no ? and everybody is happy.

  32. The biggest problem I see with anti-gay propaganda is that most of them always quote the bible.
    The bible says its wrong, so its wrong. That’s the general argument that they’re throwing out there. But at the same time, they’re hypocritically spitting in the face of their own faith.
    If Christians/Catholics believe, that the Bible is the true, 100% word of God, and that God is infallible, then they should not be picking and choosing what laws to follow, and ignoring the ones they don’t like.

    It is hypocritical for a religious zealot to spout about homosexuality is wrong because the bible says so, and some even go as far as saying that gays should be killed, because the bible says so, while within the same few pages of the bible, it says that: shaving, eating shrimp (shellfish), polyester, and working on Saturdays are also abominations onto the Lord.

    If they want to argue that gay marriage is wrong because the bible says so, then lets see them picket barber shops and the Red Lobster.

    Let us not forget, the bible itself is wrought with contradictions.

    Thou shalt not kill, is suddenly usurped with, “Thou shalt not kill, except for the gays, disobedient children, rape victims, women who don’t bow in church, prostitutes, and that village over there, go kill them, sell the children to slavery, and rape the virgins, call the rape marriage, it’ll be fine.”

    Marriage is not a sacred institution. Not in a country with shows like “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette,” and “Who wants to Marry a Millionaire.”

    Heterosexual marriage has a 50% divorce rate. A higher rate of spousal abuse, spousal rape, child abuse and child molestation.

    Heterosexual marriage also has a high rate of extramarital affairs.

    Now, I’m not saying marriage is bad. But, what I am saying, is that marriage is not sacred. It never was, it never will be. It is the union of two people , who want to be together, due to feelings of love for one another.

    Let me put it this way:

    Somewhere out there, two hormonal teenagers are having pre-martial sex. Right now. They’re doing the dirty, doing the do.

    You didn’t know about it before. Your marriage or relationship was fine. Your credit score was fine.

    But now that you know that two horny lovebirds are about to get their freak on, did your credit score plummet? Did you come down with some incurable disease?

    No. Why? Because the choice of two people, who are in no way connected to you, has no bearing, or weight on your life.

    Do the world a favor, and mind your own damn business.
