If you’ve ever wanted a visual representation of the word “desperate”, may I present to you this latest anti-gay marriage ad from a group called Nation For Marriage. As you’ll see, it features actors and actresses discussing their heartaches over laws allowing gays and lesbians to be married — while all the while lightning flashes and heavy, dark clouds swirl all around them in the background. What’s next? Blood-filled rivers? Death and destruction? These groups are an embarrassment to modern society. (For additional laughs, check out the outtakes from the auditions for this ridiculous PSA.)

I saw this ad yesterday and it made me furious! My husband and I were fuming at the homophobic hate group that created this asinine propaganda.

Thank you to Iowa and Vermont for some super good news these past two weeks!

  • http://www.anorak.co.uk Paul Sorene

But they may be prevented by “love” and a “rainbow coalition” of like-minded people of every right-minded viewpoint from those who hate gays to those who merely despise gays all the way to those who think gays are products of the Devil’s spunk.

  • VeggieTart

    Vomititus.

Some thoughts: They accuse same-sex marriage advocates of wanting to force their views on them. Pot, kettle; kettle, pot.

If you’re against gay marriage, don’t have one.

And for you, the doctor, torn between your “faith” and your work, find a line of work that doesn’t involve procedures that would violate your idiotic religion’s strictures.

  • josephG

This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

I forwarded the audtions to my friends and we are sitting around LAUGHING at these idiots.

If this is all the Right has left to give…it is smooth sailing from hear on in….BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA….WHAT IDIOTS!

  • jamie lynn

i find it really ironic that “a rainbow coalition…is coming together… to protect marriage” when the rainbow is a signifier to the gay community. also, they never explain HOW this is “threatening” their lives or “taking away” their “freedoms”.
it seems like the oppression they are claiming comes from their own intolerance and unwillingness to be open-minded.

Oh my god! Give me a freaking break! They sound like whiney little babies…’I am afraid’ Of gay people? You’re seriously afraid of gay people? I will never understand how someone can say that proponents of gay marriage are trying to inflict their values onto them with a straight(no pun intended) face. Isn’t tell someone they can’t be married inflicting THEIR values? Argh!!

  • Not Gay

This is a bad PSA. However, I think a lot of gay advocates misunderstand the difference between being scared and just outright disapproving. I disapprove of homosexuality. I am not scared. Oh… and gay ppl highjacked the rainbow. I say its time we take it back.

are these the same actors (voices) from the Simpsons ??
    :-P
they make it sound like they themselves will be forced into gay marriage ! :-P
    hilarious !

  • Electric_Insurrection

Quick, everyone put on your helmets, the gays are coming.

  • JB

    that ad is so gay.

  • mark

gay advocates misunderstand being scared and disapproving. I don’t. The psa says their scared…the third lady to talk says it. Here is another thing. who cares if you approve or not. it doesn’t matter what you think. if you think it is ok for you to have a right and other people not to then you clearly do not understand the basis for what this country stands for. this psa while disgusting will have no effect because it is so dumb and void of any kind of point. gay people didn’t “highjack” the rainbow. the rainbow flag is a flag symbolizing unity.

  • Dr.DJ

    blatant hypocrisy aside,

let’s not forget that MY life’s freedoms are in peril because these conservative jerks want to force their Religious views and practices on ME !!

we don’t all share your “faith”, so don’t i have the option to live my life without being exposed to this self-righteous, God-fearing drivel ??

  • Henry the Older

Nothing really new here. We get something like this every time we try to tax or regulate some sheltered industry, or before elections (picture old people whining about how the Democratic nominee is going to take away their SS or Medicaid). Looks like a typical RNC- coordinated PAC ad. Only thing different is that they are branching into social(religious) issues.
Expect much more with the National Health issue (“They’re taking away my doctor!”, “I’ll lose my freedom of choice!”; “I have to sit by while they tell my child in school that socialized medicine is a good thing!”).

  • Shirley White

How in hell will my getting married affect these bunch of haters? so sad.
Let them waste their money, because gays will get married no matter what.

  • woodenpickle

I’m with Not Gay. I’m not scared. I just don’t believe in it.

Two guys can not physically “fit” together nor can two girls. It’s fault of science for proving that it’s wrong, not religion.

Stop trying to teach my children that they should ignore factual science just because they want to.

  • TMAN

A laughably desperate attempt to ‘scare’ the confused and intolerant. After reading NRO’s anti-marriage editorial — I really like what one anonymous person had to say:

I also love the casual assertion that “marriage is by nature the union of a man and woman,” as if marriage is some sort of naturally occurring phenomenon like evaporation or mitosis. Marriage is a social construct. It’s whatever we say it is. And it has meant many different things over the course of human history. For instance, polygamous marriage was once very common (still is in some parts of the world). And for many centuries, marriage was primarily a financial arrangement and a way of ensuring inheritance rights. Women were essentially bought and sold. The modern concept of love as a basis for marriage is of relatively recent vintage. And civil marriage is a very different thing than religious marriage (which itself differs from religion to religion and culture to culture). The idea that there is some sort of platonic essence to marriage is just rubbish. Marriage was created by human beings and human beings can choose how they want to define it.

  • http://www.thediscerningbrute.com The Discerning Brute

I can’t wait until EVERYONE is forced into being gay married! yay!

  • themessenger

“coming together in love to protect marriage”

Priceless line from people that spend countless dollars to promote hate. This is pathetic, a true testament to how ignorant, stupid, sad, and brainwashed mankind is. I still find it incredible that these people think that if you teach equality and make gay marriage legal, that every kid is going to grow up gay, they still think being gay is a choice. Ok, now i’m getting angry.

  • http://www.myalaska.net Kevin

The answer is really quite simple: Remove marriage entirely from the State. Marriage is a religious institution and that’s where it should be managed.

  • Maggie

What’s sad is that my mother-in-law sent me a link to this video along with an email praising them for their work on this “great psa” which would “surely make a difference” in their “mission from God to save the sanctity of marriage”.

    lmao

  • Jeff Little

The Storm coming is call the “Winds of Change”.

  • http://ww.gay-friendly.org.uk Michelle

As Whoopi Goldberg once said, if you’re against gay marriage, don’t marry a gay person…

Seriously, I find it really offensive that people are contesting my right to marriage. I don’t stand up and say heterosexual couple shouldn’t be able to show their love for each other in a marriage. I find very hurtful that they feel they so easily can the other way.

  • Topher

Sad. Especially when this organization is basically a front for the Mormon Church.

  • Ross

How would a Doctor feel conflicted about gays in their work?

  • The Texas Trucker

Why are you idiots bringing politics into this? Why all the reference to the Right? I’m a conservative myself and have always been an advocate of same sex marriage. It isn’t my bag but I don’t a gay couple should have to live as not much more than roommates if they want to marry. That being said i know ALOT of Liberal morons who are quite homophobic.

Stop the damn political conversations. This has nothing to do with political affiliations. It has to do with your own personal beliefs of gay marriage.

  • Forrest

    National Organization for Marriage?

    om NOM NOM NOM

  • hil

what I don’t get is how conservatives can denounce homosexuals as “promiscuous” and “perverts” and then in the same breath denounce them AGAIN for wanting to enter into a committed monogomous relationship. WTF?!?!?!?!

  • VeggieTart

Not Gay–you can disapprove of homosexuality all you want. That doesn’t mean they’re going to magically change.

woodenpickle–homosexual behaviors are common among non-human animals, done to foster social bonds. And there are lots of things humans do that are not natural, such as drive cars, live in buildings, wear clothes, etc.

TMAN got it right–marriage is a social construct and has changed over the centuries. Allowing Ellen and Portia’s marriage to have legal weight won’t damage the institution any more than Britney “Married on an Impulse” Spears, “Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire,” “Married by America,” “The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette,” and a pretty high divorce rate in the U.S. will.

  • Hector

Yeah, finally an Ad that makes some sense.
    Gay-Marriage isn’t okay.
Just because people tolerate Homosexuals doesn’t mean you have to like it.
Now you gonna force people to like it ?
You Pro Gay Marriage people have your heart in the right place but your mind and actions not.
Why cant people be against it ?
This is a free country, and while i have homosexual friends, I defiantly do not want somebody telling my kid that being a Homosexual is normal, BECAUSE ITS NOT!

    It goes completely against nature!
If we were all Homosexuals we would not survive. I guess you people don’t get that.

Let them have domestic Partnerships as they have now or invent something new that has the same rights. But redefining marriage is just absurd.

If you like it or not, if you follow history, marriage is something that has been derived from the Catholic belief.
As a monogamous dedicated relationship between a man and a woman.
As much as you people want to hate religion standing up for what it held truly and kept a health environment for a society to grow and prosper.

Instead of redefinig what has been a foundation of the way people live for hundrets of years, why not create something new. Why must you pro gay marriage people want to take away my right of being classified as married from between a man and a woman.

Whats the next step ? polygamious marriages ? Where 3 people can get married ? After that you wanna get married to animals ? after that maybe even to objects ?

Hell i don’t even care if you do just don’t reclassify something that has proven itself for centuries.

And i can understand you pro gay marriage people that you want a union, but whats so wrong with what you have now ? or get garried for all i care.

Next thing you know people will be telling 5 yr old boys that wearing dresses is okay and teat him as a homosexual when all it took was to tell the kid that men dont wear dresses.
This is happening in Canada already, because teachers dont draw a line nor do they correct kids behavior, and if they do they treat it with medication.

this is a sad future i see ahead.

  • http://sustainablog.org Jeff McIntire-Strasburg

    And locusts… don’t forget the locusts…

I’m completely befuddled about 1) how this involves taking freedoms away, and 2)how a physician’s conflicts between her faith and medical practice has anything to do with gay marriage.

  • Megan

Wow, I hope these people don’t have a problem looking like real jerks on tape. 20 years from now when hopefully everyone realizes that this is an equality issue they’re going to feel like real jackasses. It’s as if you were caught on tape advocating against mixed race marriages!

  • Kuno_Thunder

Some of these people make it sound like the gay people are going to FORCE THEM TO BECOME GAY or something. Talking about their “rights getting taken away”, how about giving people the rights they others already have?

  • Jay

Hey Hector, you are truly an idiot

“If you like it or not, if you follow history, marriage is something that has been derived from the Catholic belief”

Oh really? So all other religions copied the Catholic’s idea of marriage? Do you not think that that Muslims get married too? I guess they “copied” Catholics. Idiot

“Whats the next step ? polygamious marriages ? Where 3 people can get married ? After that you wanna get married to animals ? after that maybe even to objects ?”

This is the single dumbest argument you anti-gay marriage people make. Make marriage between 2 consulting adults you intolerant dumbass

    “It goes completely against nature!
If we were all Homosexuals we would not survive. I guess you people don’t get that.”

You know what else goes against nature? Women who can’t give birth or get pregnant, if women were all like them, then we wouldn’t survive. THROW EM ALL IN JAIL!!! THERY AREN’T NATURAL!!!

Oh, and marriage has been around for more than “hundreds of years” you illogical bigoted idiot

Also, if a doctor takes an oath to treat people and help them to the best of their ability and they don’t because the patient is gay, they should have their license taken away, read the oath they take if you disagree with me

  • http://tshirtdekonstruction.com dekonstruct

Wow, you can’t make this stuff up. A rainbow coalition of every creed and race? Except gays of course.

Someday I hope these people stop NOM NOM NOMing on the dicks of WASPs and take some time to think about what equal rights actually means.

  • h

I always find it surprising that those fighting to “protect the sanctity of marriage” don’t instead put their money into campaigns against TV shows like “The Bachelor” and (previously) “Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire.” Devaluing marriage to a gameshow prize does more to hurt the institution than REAL love between two men or two women ever could.

  • alex

whats the big deal? im a straight man, and i would love to be forced into a marriage with a gay woman

  • alex

please god, protect me from your followers

  • alex

news flash: there is no such thing as god´s law. its all made up by other humans

  • alex

not only will you be forced to accept gayness as normal, you will also be forced to eat pork

  • alex

will it be a federal agency or a private agency in charge of forcing us to be gay? i am opposed to this if its a federal agency but am willing to accept it if its managed as a private agency (no beaurocracy)

  • m

this ad encapsulates the real contradiction of christian ethics:

yes, we are accepting of all people. but this means that those we can’t accept (because the bible tells us not to) must not be properly human.

  • BigBlackMan

I wonder what the psa’s for pro-slavery looked like. Or the psa’s for anti-womens voting rights.

Ironic! They are complaining the government is oppressing there beliefs. While they are oppressing gays’ beliefs.

Hitler had similar views. Almost 1 million gays were killed in the holocaust.

  • alex

wait, do they mean gay=lame or gay=happy?

  • dson

Simpler way about it, remove marriage.

i am a professional assasin, leader of an elite crew of international hitmen. we call ourselves the “huggy-wuggies”

  • dbicknell

Ugh, this ad made me so mad. As a straight female who was taught by many gay teachers, gay marriage has absolutley no impact in my life. And the part when the mother said, “schools are teaching my child that gay marriage is ok.” First, I was not taught about marriage in school, and second, teachers should be teaching that EQUAL marriage rights for all is good.
I am still suprised that straight couples really feel gay marriage will affect them. It won’t and they don’t want it to, they just want to have the happiest day of their lives start with equal marriage rights.

  • Matt

In my experience, most people who are anti-gay are actually just anti-gay-sex. The best way to stop gay sex is to let gay people get married. Everyone knows that sex ends with marriage.
