Thank you Peter….as a Maya non elder this type of irresponsible hyperbole is absolutely mind boggling. Except for the fact that it’s always apparently profitable. The Maya calendar is exactly that a calendar, and though there is quite a bit more to it in regards Maya spiritual belief, no where in the last 2 thousand some odd years does it say the world will end. In fact on the few monuments the date is mentioned quite the opposite is stated, listing dates far far in to our collective future. Quit using our culture to frighten the public, Wall Street and Government are more than adequate.

Actually, the Mayan calendar doesn’t predict anything. It is irresponsible people who are making the predictions, and making money from it. The Mayan elders in Guatemala are very upset because their history is being used incorrectly. There isn’t any evidence that anything bad will happen on Dec 21, 2012. It is all an Internet hoax.
