Well it’s official…I’m an old man!
On Sunday, April 12th, I turned a whopping 26-years-old and officially graduated from the quarter-century club! (Takes long, well deserved bow.)
Since drinking your face off is SOOOO early twenties, I decided to spend the day taking some of my favorite friends upstate to visit the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary for a day of fun, sun and a little bit of hay! And let me tell you: IT WAS AWESOME!!
When we arrived at the farm we were greeted by Woodstock’s friendly staff (and a few cheerful turkeys) who promptly offered us a tour of the grounds. Now as much as I brag about sanctuaries on the blog, this was actually my first time visiting one.
I must say that I was surprised at how friendly and loving the animals were. I knew that many of them had been rescued from treacherous conditions and I assumed they might be a bit weary around new people. But just the opposite was true! Each animal we met seemed to be bursting with personality and excited to meet the whole group. Maybe they knew it was my birthday.
Jenny Brown, co-owner of the farm, came over to say hello and let me bottle feed a 20-day-old goat that had recently been rescued from an abusive farmer. Best birthday gift ever! She also gave us a tour of her home and a behind the scenes look at the new baby chicks that just arrived and can now be viewed in real-time at WoodstockFAS.org.
I also learned that a generous donor recently came forward and offered to match every dollar the farm raises up to $50,000 until June of this year. So if you’ve been thinking about donating, NOW’S THE TIME TO DO IT!!!
We ended the day at the Garden Cafe in downtown Woodstock where I had incredible vegan meal and blew out some well-deserved birthday candles. Does it really get any better than that?
So if you get the chance, take a trip to Woodstock (it’s only 2 hours from NYC) and spend a day visiting Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary and the Garden Cafe. You have my word that it will be an amazing time!
