[...] Happy Earth Day! I hope you’re doing something fun and green, but in case you’re just hanging out, watching your shows, you should know that today would be a great day to tune in to Oprah — she’s dedicating today’s show to trash and the effect on our oceans.
It's cool to see the celebrities speak out given their influence, but what about ordinary people doing extraordinary things?

For example, extreme swimmer Christopher Swain (www.changents.com/christopherswain) this morning is plunging into the ice cold Atlantic Ocean to do a 1,000 mile free crawl from Marblehead, Massachusetts to Washington DC to call attention to the challenges we're facing as an ocean planet.

More importantly, though, he is coming ashore to help 2,000 classrooms develop projects to protect the oceans. His story is extraordinary.

He is the first person to swim the entire length of the Columbia River, the Charles River, the Hudson River, and Lake Champlain, surviving collisions with boats, 12-foot waves, Lamprey Eel attacks, and waste contaminated with everything from arsenic to nuclear waste. Christopher has made water-based education presentations to over 53,000 North American schoolchildren.

Oprah, meet a real change agent!

All these activities and events are very admirable but the thing is that Earth Day should be everyday and not only on April 22nd.

I mean, after all this is our only home...

And it's so easy going green! You don't have to change your entire life. It's the little things that summed up make all the difference.
