Rush Limbaugh Not Feeling The Love From Hunting Groups On HSUS Endorsement

As expected, Rush Limbaugh’s endorsement of the Humane Society of the United States is not sitting well with pro-hunting groups — particularly Ducks Unlimited and the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance. The latter has especially been vocal in rallying support against HSUS ever since Carrie Underwood decided to donate to the group through music sales. According to the Washington Times, twenty-eight groups representing millions of hunters and sportsmen are demanding that the conservative radio commentator end his collaboration with the HSUS and stop “helping them to mainstream their image in the minds of reasonable people.”
Said HSUS President Wayne Pacelle to the WP, “I’m embarrassed for them that they would criticize Rush for amplifying our message that dogfighting and other malicious forms of animal cruelty are unacceptable in society,” he said. “I think the folks that are criticizing it are unbelievably knee-jerk — I guess they want to provide comfort to dogfighters? It just doesn’t make any sense. . . . There are certain things that civil society should agree on.”
Interesting enough — when Limbaugh was asked about his endorsement of the “Humane Society” on FOX News, he veered away from the topic saying, “Well, now, you’re getting into politics…” Hmmm…one thing I thought we were supposed to take away from these PSAs that respect of animals is neither left or right — but just good, common sense? If Limbaugh won’t even back up his support of HSUS in an interview, could it be that he’s feeling the pressure?

I hope none of those hunters get all crazy and go and shoot Rush. I mean, that would be such a big loss to society and all

I’m ashamed of Ducks Unlimited, I know they are pro-hunting, but they are also pro-habitat and pro-conservation. I have used them as my go to example of a conservative organization that has done a lot of good preserving our wetlands and has worked with other groups that were not pro-hunting in order to do so…guess I need a new example.
Oh, so caring about animals is unreasonable? Compassion for non-humans is unreasonable? And shooting animals for thrills is reasonable? What bizarro world do these guys (and I’m pretty sure they ARE guys) inhabit?
Caring about animals is not unreasonable. Howeve,r global veganism, the goal of HSUS is unreasonable.
The HSUS works with hunters, farmers, and a wide variety of folks with varying views – surely these people should all be able to come together and speak out against something as atrocious as animal fighting.
seriously, why is this such a big deal in the minds of some? rush did commentary on two very specific topics, none of which had to do with hunting! if groups want to attack others for choosing to care to do something, they can, but what are they really accomplishing? i guess getting people to bash the work of an organization, but why not focus on the fact that rush spoke out against dog fighting, wahoo, i like that!
“According to the Washington Times, twenty-eight groups representing millions of hunters and sportsmen” !!!!
Millions!? SCARY!!!!
Now that just makes me not want to go to the USA, ever!!!!
Those kinds of attitudes just prove me right when I say that people who kill for pleasure cannot be good people!
Oh, and didn’t FBI carried out studies which concluded that violent criminals such as murderers and rapists had a previous history of animal abuse? Do the maths…
Doesn’t that mean anything to your society?
“sportsmen ” – is that what you call nowadays someone who kills for pleasure!?
“hunters and sportsmen are demanding” – where is the so called American freedom of speech and democracy?
So, people have the right to own guns but they can’t speak their own mind when it means going against the interest of a particular group? What kind of democracy is that?
Those extremists who call themselves patriots are the ones who will ruin your country and who give the USA a pathetic image abroad!
And believe me when I say that that truly saddens me
Whoever,
If it makes you feel better; I’ve yet to meet these “millions” of hunters here. I meet a TON of people daily with my job and have only met a handful of hunters in my LIFE (really only 1 or 2 here and a few good ole boys where I grew up in Indiana) I think the number has been exaggerated. The MAJORITY does not hunt in this country (thank GOD) though I must say (once again) if I were to ever eat meat I’d rather it be an animal who was just hunted and happy up until it died than a sad animal who lived her whole life in misery in a factory farm shoved in a space where she can’t move.
I’m not into hunting but think the real focus should be on factory farming for those who do eat meat.
Thanks
E
PS by the way I still can not understand why anyone would want this fat bald self admitted (because he had to) drug addict to be doing ads for anything. Does anyone respect him anymore?

Rush Limbaugh doesn’t owe his hunting base any apologies. He endorsed an HSUS campaign to end dogfighting and he encouraged people to treat animals humanely. Period.
Hillary:
I’d like to know who are the “dog fighters” the HSUS whole cause is based around.
Seems to me the only “dog fighter” ever charged is still in prison; but there must be millions of other dog fighters, for this to be the “most honorable” cause of their existence.
Rush should have partnered up with a legitimate organization that uses the funds it raises to help animals and animal shelters. Partnering up with this lobbying group was a huge mistake.
Hunters don’t disagree with Rush’s statements. We disagree with lending credence to a falsely named front group of insane animal hating narcissists.
Check my link.
Erin, I’m glad to read your comment
So they’re just exaggerating the number…
I agree with you on the factory farming issue, but the problem is that these people hunt for ‘pleasure’! I seriously doubt they don’t buy meat as well! So, ultimately, the motivation most of these humans have to hunt is the pleasure of killing!!!
Regarding factory farming, I watched a documentary last night about studies which were done to find out how smart pigs are. Amazingly they are extremely clever, more than dogs actually.
)… if we add the other animals who have the same unfortunate fate (cows, hens, turkeys, all kinds of fish, etc.) – and since there are 6 and something billion humans -, extrapolating it means that there would be at least 1 cow/pig for each person on the planet.
Anyway… it was mentioned that there are approximately 1 BILLION pigs ‘destined’ for human consumption! I started thinking (I do that sometimes
Well, not taking into account the fat assholes out there, it means every ‘average’ person on this planet would have enough meat to eat for more or less one year! And this is a vicious cycle, since animals are continually being raised for human consumption.
Therefore I ask, why on the f****** hell are there millions of people starving on the planet?
Talk about unfair distribution of ‘resources’!!!!
So I guess Rush is going to be labeled a terrorist soon… Just like Carrie Underwood. The attacks against the HSUS are really pathetic. I’m not impressed by them. I’m not even impressed by the attacks at PETA. The green scare sure did get a hold in the US.
I wonder what they will come up with next!
Whoever, you’re right that factory farming is a bigger problem. In fact, even if all the fur farms, all the animal-testing facilities, and all the animal circuses were shut down; and even if all the hunters renounced what they did and stopped killing animals for pleasure; that would barely dent the surface of animal exploitation. And you’re also absolutely right that there is an unfair distribution of resources.
HOWEVER, coming out against animal fighting is pretty easy. Many people love dogs and are appalled to see them suffer. I think many people also dissociate “food” animals from other animals–torturing a chicken for food is different from torturing a chicken in the name of “entertainment”. So it’s easier to get people to support initiatives that crack down on animal fighters and protest fur than it is to get them to give up their meat.
SOS, the Michael Vick case got publicity because he was a celebrity when he was caught. A noted quarterback in the NFL is going to get more attention than Joe Blow. And my understanding is the actual charges were illegal gambling on these fights. There may be other arrests and convictions of scumbags engaging in these acts, but it’s not as publicized because these guys aren’t famous.
Bad move Rush, bad move. HSUS wants animal liberation! Do your research, man!
