Whoever, you're right that factory farming is a bigger problem. In fact, even if all the fur farms, all the animal-testing facilities, and all the animal circuses were shut down; and even if all the hunters renounced what they did and stopped killing animals for pleasure; that would barely dent the surface of animal exploitation. And you're also absolutely right that there is an unfair distribution of resources.

HOWEVER, coming out against animal fighting is pretty easy. Many people love dogs and are appalled to see them suffer. I think many people also dissociate "food" animals from other animals--torturing a chicken for food is different from torturing a chicken in the name of "entertainment". So it's easier to get people to support initiatives that crack down on animal fighters and protest fur than it is to get them to give up their meat.

SOS, the Michael Vick case got publicity because he was a celebrity when he was caught. A noted quarterback in the NFL is going to get more attention than Joe Blow. And my understanding is the actual charges were illegal gambling on these fights. There may be other arrests and convictions of scumbags engaging in these acts, but it's not as publicized because these guys aren't famous.

So I guess Rush is going to be labeled a terrorist soon... Just like Carrie Underwood. The attacks against the HSUS are really pathetic. I'm not impressed by them. I'm not even impressed by the attacks at PETA. The green scare sure did get a hold in the US.

I wonder what they will come up with next!

Erin, I'm glad to read your comment :)

So they're just exaggerating the number...

I agree with you on the factory farming issue, but the problem is that these people hunt for 'pleasure'! I seriously doubt they don't buy meat as well! So, ultimately, the motivation most of these humans have to hunt is the pleasure of killing!!!

Regarding factory farming, I watched a documentary last night about studies which were done to find out how smart pigs are. Amazingly they are extremely clever, more than dogs actually.
Anyway... it was mentioned that there are approximately 1 BILLION pigs 'destined' for human consumption! I started thinking (I do that sometimes :) )... if we add the other animals who have the same unfortunate fate (cows, hens, turkeys, all kinds of fish, etc.) - and since there are 6 and something billion humans -, extrapolating it means that there would be at least 1 cow/pig for each person on the planet.

Well, not taking into account the fat assholes out there, it means every 'average' person on this planet would have enough meat to eat for more or less one year! And this is a vicious cycle, since animals are continually being raised for human consumption.

Therefore I ask, why on the f****** hell are there millions of people starving on the planet?

Talk about unfair distribution of 'resources'!!!!

Rush should have partnered up with a legitimate organization that uses the funds it raises to help animals and animal shelters. Partnering up with this lobbying group was a huge mistake.
Hunters don't disagree with Rush's statements. We disagree with lending credence to a falsely named front group of insane animal hating narcissists.

Hillary:
I'd like to know who are the "dog fighters" the HSUS whole cause is based around.
Seems to me the only "dog fighter" ever charged is still in prison; but there must be millions of other dog fighters, for this to be the "most honorable" cause of their existence.

Rush Limbaugh doesn't owe his hunting base any apologies. He endorsed an HSUS campaign to end dogfighting and he encouraged people to treat animals humanely. Period.

Whoever,

If it makes you feel better; I've yet to meet these "millions" of hunters here. I meet a TON of people daily with my job and have only met a handful of hunters in my LIFE (really only 1 or 2 here and a few good ole boys where I grew up in Indiana) I think the number has been exaggerated. The MAJORITY does not hunt in this country (thank GOD) though I must say (once again) if I were to ever eat meat I'd rather it be an animal who was just hunted and happy up until it died than a sad animal who lived her whole life in misery in a factory farm shoved in a space where she can't move.

I'm not into hunting but think the real focus should be on factory farming for those who do eat meat.

Thanks

"According to the Washington Times, twenty-eight groups representing millions of hunters and sportsmen" !!!!

Millions!? SCARY!!!! :)

Now that just makes me not want to go to the USA, ever!!!!

Those kinds of attitudes just prove me right when I say that people who kill for pleasure cannot be good people!

Oh, and didn't FBI carried out studies which concluded that violent criminals such as murderers and rapists had a previous history of animal abuse? Do the maths...

Doesn't that mean anything to your society?

"sportsmen " - is that what you call nowadays someone who kills for pleasure!?

"hunters and sportsmen are demanding" - where is the so called American freedom of speech and democracy?
So, people have the right to own guns but they can't speak their own mind when it means going against the interest of a particular group? What kind of democracy is that?

Those extremists who call themselves patriots are the ones who will ruin your country and who give the USA a pathetic image abroad!
And believe me when I say that that truly saddens me :(
