Sometimes you see articles online and you wonder why they’re news. Actually, we’re probably responsible for adding to that growing problem — BUT — this one was pretty amusing. “DiCaprio commits eco blunder” was the headline from The Hundu News — prompting me to wonder what the hell he might have done. Clubbed a baby seal? Taking a joyride in a Hummer with Senator James Inhofe? Burning tires in his backyard? WHAT?!

He asked for a straw at the NRDC’s plastic-free event.

Yup.

From the article,

‘I am a big fan of recycling and saving the earth. I always preach to my family about it. I feel I can do something to help the world!,’ said the 34-year-old star at the NRDC’s ‘Save The World’ fundraiser event. The actor famous for his eloquent speeches on environment issues, had to eat his words when he asked a waiter for a plastic straw only to be politely informed that it was a plastic-free event.”

Bastard. ‘Nuff said. He’s ruined.

Good thing DiCaprio only asked for a straw and didn’t accept a dog as a gift from a friend instead of getting it from a shelter. In that case he would have been branded as worthless and castrated by a roving band of menopausal vegan Hillary supporter/sore losers.

    DANG Heidi! LOL!!

He probably has sensitive teeth ;)

  • Ashley

Straws prevent the teeth from getting stained. Gotta keep them veneers white.

This is the BEST Leonardo DiCaprio story you could find on the internet?

I have a better story for you. “Leonardo writes for Time Magazine about Van Jones – one of the Top Most Infuential People of 2009.”

Re: Why is this news? I’m happy that at least you can admit to being responsible sometime for the growing problem. :-)

You know, they DO have biodegradable, eco-friendly straws….. this is just silly!

  • jaxin

What ever happened to those nifty waxed paper straws they used to make? You know back before the plastic ones. Why doesn’t anyone make those any more?

    I’d like some.

    There are biodegradable straws.

Even if not, what if he did? I use straws too, but i re-use it more than once. We don’t know if he drops it at one time, but yeah, was really stupid not knowing the plastic-free thing.

LOL well I guess he had a “moment” as they say here it was a lapse in judgement and I guess he isnt as green as we thought and he has some dirty happens we dont know about………..

  • VeggieTart

Unless he’s vegetarian, one meal with meat will do more damage to the environment than a fershtinkiner plastic straw!

They make paper and glass straw alternatives. Maybe he expected one of those?

THAT’S SUCH A DUMB STORY IT AIN’T EVEN WORTH THE PAPER IT’S WRITTEN ON. STOP WASTING MY BRAIN SPACE WITH YOUR STUPID FUCKING DRIVEL.

  • Drais

Why not use paper straws? They have been around forever!

  • Adamant

What’s really stupid is they make eco-safe drinking straws that biodegrade.

Why wouldn’t an event such as this have such straws, and hype them?

  • Reb

They could have had some paper straws on hand. The event organizers are the ones who made the blunder, not Leo.
