[UPDATE: Live Earth has informed us that this event has been delayed for the foreseeable future...]

The people that brought you the Live Earth worldwide concert event back in Summer ’07 are getting ready to launch a new campaign — this time aimed at helping to solve the water crisis. There will be a press conference next Tuesday, May 19th, to announce the initiative. Right now, all we can speculate is that this has nothing to do with music. In fact, it seems like you may have to potentially get your butt up and go running to participate; since the info we received has “Run for Water” all over it. That being said, organizers are aiming for the “largest solutions-based global water initiative in history” — so we can expect this to be a massive event.

Here are the early details:

Join Live Earth, Dow and Global Water Challenge as we announce plans to implement the largest solutions-based water initiative on record to help combat the global water crisis. Seventy percent of the Earth’s surface is covered by water, but only 2.5 percent of that is suitable to drink for a community of nearly seven billion people, which means water scarcity affects a variety of countries, communities and families from California to Kenya. With close to a billion people (one in eight) that don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water, it’s time the world community comes together to help solve the water crisis.

More to come!
