    I’m trying to go without air conditioning for the first summer in about 10 years. Wish me luck!

  • SG

    I am switching to all natural cleaning products . . . from dish washing to laundry.

  • michelle rosborough

    Got new Energy Star-qualified appliances & have ceiling fans in every room

  • Cathy Herard

    I am hanging my laundry outside to dry whenever the weather allows and for the first time I am growing some of my own veggies!!! Oh, and hopefully going to buy a manual lawn mower!!

  • http://www.debbiedoesraw.blogspot.com Debbie

    I am greening my summer by riding my bike all over town, growing my own food and starting a school garden!
    deb
    Ps I really want to win this!!!!!

  • VeggieTart

    I’m vegan, I use natural products, and I have lived without A/C for 10 years. And even though we have a new HVAC system in my apartment, I’ll still try to get by with fans.

    I use Dropps laundry soap and hang most of my laundry to dry in the bathroom.

    I bought a historic old home which is all original – the floors fixtures – even the bathrooms. Instead of buying a new home that uses up resources where they usually tore down a forest to build it. (Instead I have a little forest preserve in my back yard which has been there for years)

    I have a laundry line hanging all my clothes to dry (I also use natural soap nuts to wash them and no detergent at all!) I have used all natural cleaning products for about 15 years -mainly baking soda and vinegar with natural organic oils.

    Even though I live on the beach in Florida I rarely turn on my high efficiency AC. Being in an older home with lots of windows facing east surrounded by trees 2 houses off the river a few blocks from the ocean helps keep it cool with natural breezes. if it does get hot I try to use my window fan to help circulate the air instead of A/C.

    I have outdoor solar lights and an organic garden and don’t use any chemicals on my property. I am also looking into planting a garden on my roof since it’s flat which will help cool the home.

    I also put in window tint to help cool the house. I have a tiny 30 gallon water heater. Very small. Hope to go tankless one day.

    At the retreat house (not where I live but where we hold our retreats that I rent) granted it’s new but it’s getting its green certification and was built with eco friendly specs and set back from the ocean leaving the natural dunes.

    Erin :)

    I haven’t seen a store plastic bag in over six months. This includes going to Walt Disney World with my family last week. I carry cloth bags everywhere and refuse to get a plastic bag.

    We’re trying to plant vegetables for the first time ever! tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce so we can have fresh salad whenever we want!

  • Hilary A

    I have switched to natural cleaning products and installed ceiling fans in all the major rooms of the apartment.

    I also recycle everything that can go in the bins. Reduce, reuse, recycle!

  • Allie

    i’ve started a vegetable and herb garden and am letting all the bunnies in my neighborhood get away with eating everything :) . snowpeas, tomato plants, gone!!

  • Elisabeth Villarroel

    I bring a stainless bottle to work for water instead of buying bottles every day and I keep a reusable coffee mug in my car for my trips to Starbucks. I also use cloth bags at the supermarkets and bring all junk mail, catalogs, old magazines, and other paper to a paper recycling collection since my neighborhood doesn’t recycle paper yet.

  • Kerr

    I am making a commitment to hang at least one load of laundry outside each week.. it is a start. I do many other things everyday, but I am attached to the dryer :)

  • http://foodinmylife.blogspot.com Glauce

    We asked for the recycle big boxes for the building when we moved here and they put them 2 months ago, so we’re already recycling. We try do let the clother dry naturaly most of the time (and the summer will help because the sun comes to our living room every morning). We choose walk instead of take a bus and we almost stopped 100% using plastic bags.

  • Claudia Higgins

    Each visit to the store, my daughter and I continue our efforts to purchase “green-products” for cleaning, laundry. We make every effort to recycle at home and in my workplace!

  • http://@JoyNatalie Natalie Alford

    I am increasing the amount and types of things that I recycle, thanks in part to my local waste management company for accepting more items.

    I am growing a small garden this year, and if all goes well will add some of the veggies and herbs that I eat regularly. Right now, I am testing cilantro…mmm!

    When I’m not at home, I switch the AC to fan. I have pets, so I need to keep the air moving, but it’s doesn’t need to be a constant 70 degrees, either!

    I love Target, and I just started following. Ecorazzi on Twitter. Pick me!

  • http://www.WholesaleSpaSource.com Nancy

    Ohh..I didn’t make it for the Twitter contest today, but saw your note to post here for another chance… hope I might have a shot, as I’m an eco-beauty product junkie :) .

    I have been slowly converting all of our daily habits to their green alternatives:
    Method laundry detergent and washing in cold water whenever possible;
    water filter on the tap instead of bottled water;
    no more plastic cups (this was a bad habit of ours);
    cloth diapers for the baby;
    dish towels instead of paper towels;
    natural, eco-friendly cleaning products;
    buying organic when possible;
    I will be taking it a step further this summer by shopping at the local farmer’s market for my produce, eggs and even chicken!

  • Diane

    I live in a apartment so a number of things I want to do, I can’t however I do use the engergy efficent light bulbs. Since it’s just me, only one light can be on a a time and none if I don’t need it. My small kitchen appliances are unplugged (including the microwave) until I need them.

  • Amanda

    I went to Target 3 times last week because I’m moving in T-8 days!! I contemplated getting these bamboo sheets but decided the ones I have now should last a little longer. Would love the new stuff for the new apartment :)

  • http://curiositykilledthe.com Brookie

    My newest green goals: switch from Seventh Generation paper towels to reusable cloths, purchase energy rated appliances as my current ones die, and hang clothes to dry them.

  • Kathryn

    I don’t drive to work. I bring my own coffee mug and water bottle all the time; I’m a member of a CSA and growing lots of veggies that we’ll can and freeze for the winter. This summer, I’ll be hanging clothes out to dry more than ever.

  • Michele

    In terms of greening my home, I’m switching over to green cleaning products!

  • Robin

    Carpooling to work. Giving all of our cardboard spools to the pets as economical toys. Looking forward to more great ideas from your site.

  • Megan

    Two things I started doing:

    I haven’t used my a.c. for almost a year now & try to bike around as much as possible.

  • http://lightrailblogger.com Tony

    We have really bad pollution here in Phoenix, so I’ve recenty committed to living carfree and blogging about my experience/adventure. I also signed up for the email alerts when we have high pollution advisory days, and I encouraged my readers to also sign up. And just in case they didn’t..I use twitter to spread the word about sharing a ride or using our new light rail system. PS. Love your site!!

  • Elizabeth

    I have my first ever vegetable garden (made with homemade compost) instead of a lawn, and I recently bought cloth mesh produce bags to use instead of constantly cleaning and air drying the dreaded plastic bags. Veggies from the source!

  • Beth

    I have reduced the amount of laundry that I dry in the dryer. I also always try to purchase eco-friendly and cruelty-free products for my home and for personal use. I’m out of work right now so I could sure use a few freebies!

  • judy

    i am greening my summer by educating my teenage daughter and her friends on simple ‘green’ efforts they can implement both at home and at school. further, i have several fruit trees and plan to plant a small organic garden this fall. i’ve also tried composting and continue to learn the best way and have increased my recycle bins from 3 to 5 since i have learned to recycle more waste material. thank you for the opportunity to enter.
