With the new Star Trek movie in theatres, I thought this clip (courtesy of the lovely Vegetarian Star) was somewhat relevant. I also enjoyed it for the 1970s porn-set vibe.

Anyways, we all know Spock is a Vulcan — and Vulcans, as a race of higher-intelligence than our own, long ago decided that killing another species for food was simply illogical. (Yes, I had to look this up.) In the clip below, however, Spock is forced to eat meat after traveling back in time and getting stuck with an attractive woman in an ice cave. I hate it when that happens. Check it out below:

(BTW, even though the clip says Spock is a vegan, Wikipedia begs to differ. I’ll let you be the judge since my realm of expertise is generally limited to Star Wars and the A-Team.)

I can’t be the only nerd who watched the movie and wondered why Spock Prime was wearing a fur-lined coat on Delta Vega?

    Great clip! love it!

I believe Nimoy is/was vegetarian in real life. He recorded an album or two of poems in the 80′s about animals one written by my own animal activist mother about her work saving the whales. Here’s a youtube link to him reading her work :)

It was interesting, my take on this scene after having been vegan for a while.

It had been years since I had seen this episode, then I caught it one late night while flipping channels. The first time around I gave no thought to the idea, now though, I was saying to myself.. “Oh no Spock! Please oh please, never let me be in that situation!”

Sheryl: I guess I just assumed it was fake, to be fuzzy and warm? But then again how did he even get it? :D I’ll try not to ponder it too much, seeing as how it’s a movie. (Although I’ve been known to do so.)
