HSUS Gives Parsons School Of Design A Cruelty-Free Makeover

Parsons The New School for Design is getting some serious points in my book!

The design school is teaming up with The Humane Society of the United States to help educate design and fashion marketing students on issues associated with apparel that uses animal fur, including animal cruelty, advertising and labeling issues, and environmental impacts.

Simon Collins, dean of fashion for Parsons said:

“We encourage our students to consider the global impact of the apparel industry and with this we have an obligation to educate them on the treatment of animals. By partnering with The Humane Society of the United States, we are providing our students with the tools to make thoughtful decisions about the materials they use during their career.”

You surely know by now that Ecorazzi is proudly anti-fur and totally supports the important work the HSUS does to educate consumers. We’re jazzed to see Parsons joining the club and embracing responsible, ethical fashion. You rock!

  1. This is great! They should require a class for everyone to graduate that is about issues of animal rights, the envrionment, and ethical labor in the fashion industry. They should talk about things like reptile skin, wool, and leather too. I hope there are more great vegan or at least fur free fashion designers in the future.

  2. I think that’s awesome! Are they going to advocate against leather and wool as well or is that too much to ask? I guess they have to start somewhere.

  3. This makes me sooo happy! Everything begins with education.

  4. Agreed great move. I almost went to Parson’s after high school. I didn’t even know they were into using fur and other inhumane materials at the time. Well glad they’re finally getting wise. I heart HSUS

  5. Evolution in the making :)

    Great!!

  6. PETA has been doing this for I think 3 or 4 years now (http://www.furisdead.com/feat-robyounkers.asp?int=peta_newsfeed) so Parson’s has been on the right track for a while! Glad to see HSUS is working with them now, too.

  7. Brilliant! Thank you!

  8. I think this is great–start when the budding designers are students so they’ll never want to use fur (and hopefully leather, wool, and silk) in their designs to begin with.

  9. I wonder how “great” it will be when they start doing the “Human Free” makeover they have in mind for everyone.
