Exclusive: PETA Co-Founder And President Ingrid Newkirk Eats Lunch With Ecorazzi

June 15th 2009

Ingrid Newkirk is, if nothing else, one hell of a devoted animal rights warrior. As the Co-Founder and President of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Newkirk has the spent the last 30 years fighting for the cause she feels most passionately about.

Ingrid’s latest book The PETA Practical Guide to Animal Rights has just been released and “provides readers with the tools they need to get out make a difference for animals.”

Just hours ago I had the opportunity to sit down with the overachieving animal queen over Caesar Salads (me) and Vegan Bacon Cheeseburgers (her) at Blossom Café here in NYC. Check out my exclusive interview below!

A side note: if you live in NYC, make sure to stop by the Columbus Circle Borders tomorrow, June 16th, at 7 p.m to hear Ingrid chat about her new book. We’ll be there too!

  1. Ms. Newkirk is such an inspiration to everyone. She truly has class and is very admirable!

  2. I cannot say enough about Ingrid Newkirk. She is dedicated, tireless, and committed like few people in the world. If we all had an ounce of her resolve…I can only imagine.

She is a hero and a saint in the truest sense of the words.

  3. Great interview. Judging from the art it looks like you might even have sat at the same table I did a few months back when I was in NYC. Honestly though I wasn’t impressed with the food or ambiance. Now Candle 79 (also vegan not too far away) That place was packed, food ten times better and awesome!

  4. Ms Newkirk is a whack job who condones violence!

“Our nonviolent tactics are not as effective. We ask nicely for years and get nothing. Someone makes a threat, and it works.”
    — Ingrid Newkirk, in the April 8, 2002 issue of US News & World Report , Apr 2002

“There is no hidden agenda. If anybody wonders about — what’s this with all these reforms — you can hear us clearly. Our goal is total animal liberation. [emphasis added]”
    — “Animal Rights 2002” convention, Jun 2002

  5. Most of her answers were spot-on.
I can’t agree with her on everything, though.

  6. Great interview! Ingrid Newkirk is such an inspiration and hero to so many animals (human and otherwise!) – thank you so much for posting this!
