Pierce Brosnan was in Washington, DC last month working with the International Fund for Animal Welfare to help gain support for new legislation protecting whales and other marine life. The IFAW has released a video of Brosnan speaking at the event — and his speech shows just how impassioned he is on the topic. The official website for the actor has also been updated to give fans more information on how they can support the Marine Conservation Bill. Check out the video below:

A very nice speech. However, it is inaccurate and he fails to mention some important facts. First, Japan is engaged in scientific whaling. Whether people BELIEVE that or not is irrelevant. The fact is Japans’ whale hunts are listed as UNDER SCIENTIFIC PERMIT on the IWC’s website. Second, he fails to mention that the U.S., Russia and Greenland are hunting whales, too. From 1985 to 2008 America has killed 1,120 endangered Bowhead whales. Russia has killed 2,776 Gray whales, Greenland has killed 3,605 Minke whales, 308 Fin whales and 21 Humpback whales.
