The Green Quote: Brad Pitt Still Annoyed Over California’s Passing Of Prop 8

“It’s ridiculous that Prop 8 took away gay people’s right to marry! I have no understanding of that kind of hatred. Maybe it’s fear of difference or of the unknown. If you feel belittled, maybe you need someone else to belittle to feel powerful. It’s the only way I know how to explain it. You’ve got religion telling you what to think about homosexuality, about marriage. They say homosexuality is a choice, a lifestyle, something you can be cured of, and that isn’t true. But if you’re tucked away and have no friends who are gay, you’ll believe what the preachers say. Just think of it in terms of being in love–how would you feel if someone told you that you couldn’t be with the person you loved?””
- Brad Pitt expressing his annoyance to Parade magazine over California’s decision to ban gay marriage earlier this year. What do you think? Are you still sore over 8? Chime in and share your thoughts!

Very cool photograph!
He’s awesome, but that is a weird picture.
I’m not sure what this has to do with the environment or animal rights but I’m all for same sex marriage! I’m bi-sexual and I would like to be able to marry either a man or a woman depending on who is my soul mate.
Basically prop 8 states that marriage is to be defined as the union of one man and one woman.
Gays can enter civil unions, with all the rights granted a married couple by the state of California. This is the same case in numerous countries including France, Denmark, Great Britain, Germany and parts of Argentina.
The issue isn’t really about rights, since those rights are granted by civil unions. Even married gays didnt have the federal rights that go with marriage because that is not a state issue. Prop 8 doesnt change that. It is about the meaning of a word that is sacred and the foundation of the traditional family unit.
Finally in jurisdictions were marriage has been redefined to include gays, very very few gays take part in it. Less than 10% of gays in Canada, the Netherlands or Spain are married.
You have to wonder why Obama won’t approve gay marriages. Maybe Brad needs to sit down and have a chat with Obama?
is he wearing a dress?
after hearing his views on (conventional) marriage and child rearing, i’m pretty sure brad pitt ought to stick to acting and refrain from spouting his wisdom.
he is a great actor. sociologist, not so much.
The photo has been updated since some people were confused by the one of Pitt wearing a dress. Obviously, Pitt is not gay — nor do we wish to stereotype the gay community by showing Pitt wearing a dress while speaking out for gay rights. Our apologies.
