My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis, and singer/songwriter M. Ward have solidified their previously casual musical relationship to form a new supergroup called Monsters of Folk.
On September 22nd, the group is releasing their debut album and will be touring this fall. For the tour, they’ve teamed up with Air Traffic Control, a resource for musicians’ philanthropic and social change work, and have selected local non-profits in each of the cities they’re playing to receive a portion of ticket sales. Selected organizations include The Innocence Project, Tempe Bike Action Group and Honor the Earth.
One dollar of each ticket sold will be donated. It’s a simple idea which begs the question: why doesn’t everyone do this? Let’s just hope that more do.
For the record, (pun intended) the guys are releasing their album on none other than eco-minded mogul Steve Bing’s Shangri-La Music. Three teaser tracks are currently available on iTunes.
