pinktweetNot surprisingly, Pink is more than a little upset that Michael Vick is coming to play football in her hometown of Philadelphia. She just tweeted the following about the convicted dogfighter:

“wow. michael vick in MY hometown, Philly. of all the places. I hope the fans tear him to pieces like his beloved dogs.”

According to TMZ, protests are planned today in Philly against Vick’s selection by the Eagles. Let the fallout begin.

    Vick lovin’ dogs?

Maybe Pink can get a date now.

  • D.

A reminder, 98% percent of the Philadelphian public eat eggs, meat & dairy. Most of them know exactly what’s the meaning of it (torture and murder). For the cows, chickens, pigs & fish, they are no less criminals than Michael Vick.

  • Keith In Tn

I was never a Pink fan till now…and foolish people who compare cows and such slaughtered for food to dogs hanged drowned and slammed into the ground for “sport” or “fun” well i think those people just found a new level of stupid.

  • Stephanie

To D: I agree that eating animals is murder and wrong but MOST people have no idea what really goes in the meat, egg, and dairy industries. Until I was 16 (and wanted to find out), I had no idea how cruel those industries really were. I used to think that eggs and dairy were not cruel industries and I used to believe that eating them was necessary to be healthy. Most people also don’t know that those products are unhealthy, unnecessary, and bad for the environment. Most people are misinformed and brainwashed by those industries.

  • D.

    To Stephanie:

Most adults and teenagers know that meat is torture and murder. One of the problems in our movement is our self denial to this fact. A lot of us continue to believe that if people will be more aware then they will change. This is not true in my opinion, we should acknowledge that people will always be selfish and will always look for (and find) some “rationality” to justify their behavior (a case of cognitive dissonance).

I know it sounds arrogant, but most vegans hold personal qualities that have allowed them to become vegan, despite (or because) their own selfishness. It is painful to think about it, but most (not all) non-vegans do not possess these qualities and never will.

If we acknowledge this problem, our strategics might change a little bit. Personally, I don’t have some great ideas how we should change our strategics.

I think the no-talent Pink’s limited mental resources would best be concentrated on her going-nowhere “career.”

Protesting and boycotting the NFL or the Eagles doesn’t do a damn thing to actually help dogs.

Anyone who cares about dogs should take all that anger and energy and focus it on finding homes for shelter dogs, banning puppymills, and educating youth about the cruelty of dogfighting.

    I agree with you D.

You know, I think many veg*ans are actually not activists at all (and some don’t want to be and accuse those of us who are of being extremists and intolerant people) and that’s one reason why many people still don’t know what takes place (regarding the murder of animals) in order for them to have a ‘nice’ steak or a fresh fish on their plate.

I believe that those of us who truly want to change things need to ‘shock’ people. We could begin with our friends and relatives and tell them the truth abut the animal industry and show them videos of how animals are killed. Obviously this will make us a bit unpopular but, hey, that’s a price one has to be willing to pay for being an activist!

Enough of the image many people have of veg*ans and of how they think we should be – hippies, 100% peaceful, 100% tolerant (no matter what) and spineless people! That’s why when some AR organizations like Sea Shepherd get rough they accuse them of being extremists and eco-terrorists. That’s because they think of us (and I say this from my personal experience) as this kind of peace lovers who should tolerate everything!

Interestingly, no one generally says Shell (it’s just one example among many) is a ‘terrorist corporation’ – they destroy Nigerian ecosystems, explore the country’s populations and smash all local opposition to their activities! Why aren’t they labelled a ‘terrorist corporation’?

I also agree with Elaine. We could do a lot just by volunteering at local animal shelters, promoting the adoption of stray animals, educating young people and so on…

We can also be more active on-line. Take this for instance:

    http://www.greekanimalrescue.com/salamina_poisoning/salamina_poisoning.htm

“On Sunday 9th August poison was thrown into the back garden of a house in the area of Kaki Vigla on the Greek island of Salamina. 40 dogs lived there with a family who looked after them. They were vaccinated, fed and were kept very clean.
18 of the 40 dogs died. 6 are still receiving treatment at a local vets and are expected to recover. ”

You can go to that site and write a protest e-mail to the mayor of Salamina (the e-mail is there). There are many sites that promote activism and where one can sign petitions, write protest e-mails, share information with other activists, etc.

There’s so much one can do and so little time to do it.

Sorry for the extension of my comment…

    :)

The sad fact is, Americans are conditioned to see some animals as food and others as pets. And it’s hard to move people away from that mindset, especially when old myths (“How do you get your protein?”) spread by animal exploitation industriers die hard.

It’s easier to get people outraged over what this spoiled athlete did to dogs–although I understand he’s not the only professional athlete involved in a dog fighting ring–than it is to care about what megacorporations have wage slaves do to chickens, ducks, cows, pigs, and other animals raised for food.

I also hope that the first time Vick steps on the football field (he was signed as a backup), if that ever happens, he meets a defense with dog lovers who are pissed as hell and will take a 15-yard penalty to express their outrage.

Hate is a very strong word and should be used carefully! Children are abused sexually, physicaly & mentally everyday and it does not any coverage in the media.. A human life is greater than an animal! We all make mistakes “Can anyone cast the first stone” Enough said!

  • Emily

Wow, I cannot get over how many people are throwing around palliative cliches’ like “yada yada without sin cast the first stone…” in defense of this douchebag. Look folks, I’ve NEVER drowned or electrocuted a dog before in my life, AND, ANNND I’ve also never enjoyed or benefited from the fighting of dogs in any way, shape or form so from where I’m sitting I, and anyone else who’s managed to avoid these no doubt challenging to avoid pastimes, have every single right to cast the hell outta some stones. Right at Mr. Vick’s “Gosh I Miss My Old Pre-Jail Sized Paycheck” Face.

  • Debbie

Love you Pink. Glad you have the balls to stand up for animals and voice your opinion.

“Hate is a very strong word and should be used carefully!”

What that guy did to those poor animals is much ‘stronger’!

Oh, and lose the “animal rights activists care more about animals than children” attitude. We don’t hurt anyone (all life is sacred to us) and personally I’ve never heard of a veg*an child molester.

As far as I know, all convicted child molesters are actually animal eaters… Interesting isn’t it?

In case you don’t know, the FBI did a study on the most dangerous criminals and they concluded that most of them had first abused, tortured and killed animals.

Also, to those who mention the “who without sin cast the first stone” mumbo jumbo from the bible, maybe you should read the 10 commandments again. Are you familiar with the one that says “Thou shall not kill”?
Does it specify “kill” what? NO! Is it humans, animals or both humans and animals? Isn’t it funny that a perfect god would create such an ambiguous commandment? Or maybe what it means is that we shouldn’t kill, period! Than all non-veg*an christians would be a bunch of hypocrites wouldn’t they?

“A human life is greater than an animal!”

Yeah right! Why? Because the bible says so? Or because people have been indoctrinated their entire lives to believe that? Open your eyes!!

Watch ‘Earthlings’, ‘The Cove’, ‘Food Inc.’ and you’ll see the truth about your beloved humans!!

  • TheAnswer

    1. It was a dog. Yes it was wrong, but people have commited murder and served a lighter sentence.

    2. Chickens, cows, ect. were all put on this planet by God to be eaten. Read a Bible, it’s in there.

    3. What Vick did is totally unrelated to his football career anyways. Are you all saying that all criminals should never be allowed to work again once they have served their sentence.

all i am saying is….USE YOUR BRAINS!

    to: TheAnswer

I could not have said it better myself. while it may be unfortunate that innocent dogs had to die in such an inhumane way, there are much worse things going on in the world. Who the heck is Pink anyways? A washed up talentless joke. secondly, my wife is a vegan but mainly because the thought of eating flesh grosses her out. But even she understands thats why a lot of animals are on this big rock we call earth. not only to feed us as people, but also all the other species on the planet. But my favorite comment you made was the one about reading a Bible. all I will say about that is over the years this country has strayed farther and farther away from it’s religious beliefs. for example Obama’s idea to have the “in God we trust” removed from our currency. And look where are country is headed.

that was childish of pink, everyone is entitled to an opinion but sometimes, you need to stfu. he did his time, let him go back to work. Brandy killed someone while driving, she still has a car, Lindsay had how many drunk driving incidents, no one stripped…she still manages to avoid jail.

Ben Roethlisberger raped a girl a month ago. You dont even hear that, why? because the hotel covered it up. google it.

    Speak on that.

Leave the man alone. he did what he did, paid for it, now on his way to recovery.
