The Green Quote: Rachel Leigh Cook Celebrates 15+ Years Of Vegetarianism

“Let’s see….it’ll be almost sixteen years. I’ll be thirty in October and I guess I was 14,15 when I started that. I was thrilled to find out that being a vegetarian was such a good, green thing to do. I heard people who were regular meat eaters produce a ton of carbon emissions a year. And that really blew my mind. Being vegetarian is not for everybody. I’m not a pusher of it. I do partake in some leather goods but I don’t feel too horrible about it because the animal probably got eaten.”
- Rachel Leigh Cook proudly declares her almost 16 years of vegetarianism. We’re super proud of you! But, leather!??? Sadly, very often animals used for food aren’t the same that are used for leather. No worries though. I bet our readers can recommend some AMAZING vegan fashion. What’s you’re favorite cruelty-free line? Chime in and let Rachel know!

My faves are Stella McCartney, Cole Haan, Moo Shoes, Matt & Nat for purses and accessories. I even have a vegan insulated coat from the North Face!
she’s not a vegetarian! what a farce. why are we celebrating this woman? she uses leather and she has weak convictions if she feels it’s necessary to point out in a post about being vegetarian that she doesn’t push her beliefs. “vegetarianism is not for everyone”?! yes, it is! rachel, why is it acceptable for some people to kill animals but not others? should some animals have to die just so the billy bobs of the world can enjoy their decadent, ruthless lifestyles of big macs every day? of all the wonderful vegetarian/vegans out there, why bring attention to someone who is half-assing it like this?
Cole Haan? You’ve got to be kidding me. Everything they make is leather. Don’t buy into the anti-fur crap. While yes, the fur process is probably more harsh, they are still brutally killing innocent animals in the name of fashion and money. While Stella McCartney is a significantly better, she still uses wool and silk in her products. I think Moo Shoes is probably a pretty safe bet.
She’s almost 30?
No way! I would say she is 22 or something…
Well, I believe (once again) that this proves me right!
I always say that veg*ans, in general, look younger than they really are, have a much smoother skin than animal eaters and that veg*an women have a certain ‘glow’ that non-veg*an women don’t.
Maybe Peta should make an ad saying how being veg*an makes you look younger and more beautiful, instead of putting up billboards with pathetic messages…
Oh, and regarding leather, maybe someone should send her a copy of ‘Earthlings’.
That would make her change her mind about it.
I can’t understand part-time vegetarians. There could be nothing like “a little bit of human rights”, “just a little against racism”, then what is it all about leather wearing vegies?
You can get some ideas from wear Organic | wear Green (http://ecofuture.net/greenfashion)
People are vegetarians for different reasons. Some are opposed to the cruelty of animals and some don’t eat meat for health reasons. There is nothing in the definition that says they don’t wear meat products. Even if we think it should be in the definition, it isn’t.
Vegan fashion is exploding right now. There are so many options for those who choose to live compassionately. Its only the right thing to do if you care about animals enough not to eat them.
