geraldBest known for his work on the television drama CSI, actor Gerald McCullouch is also an environmentalist and vegan/raw foodie. So it comes as no surprise that his renovated NYC apartment (a dream for the 42-year-old) would reflect those values. “I wanted to keep my carbon footprint as low and cost-efficient as possible,” says McCullouch, who spoke with the Daily News. “Actors sometimes have to live paycheck to paycheck, and it was important to keep my energy expenditures down.”

With only a $40,000 budget, the actor transformed his one-bedroom apartment into his ideal living space. It wasn’t an easy “Hollywood-esque” renovation, however — he went eight months without a shower in his pad. “You have no idea what it’s like to live without a shower in your home for eight months,” he says, trying to look on the bright side. “It did make me go to the gym more, because I had to shower there. It also made me ask, what the heck am I doing here?”

In the end, McCullouch used all-natural materials — and recycled others where possible. He also used low-VOC paint and found that the concrete floors in his bathroom soaked up the heat from an exposed hot-water pipe. “What $300,000 apartment has radiant bathroom floors?” he joked.
