postal

The Postal series of videogames is one that aims to offend. It’s bouquet of “dark humor” is so graphic, that the most recent incarnation in the series, Postal II, wasn’t even stocked on shelves by major retailers across the U.S.

Nevertheless, it has a cult following of sorts and a third episode is about to debut with some new characters many of us will probably find somewhat familiar. In a recent interview, the creators acknowledged that environmentalists are included in a new list of targets to kill. “As for douchebags, there are many!,” they said. “For example, the Ecotologists debut in Postal III. They are a zesty blend of PETA and Scientology led by a guy suspiciously reminiscent of Al Gore.”

I wouldn’t call it a bright side, but one “power-up” includes rescuing monkeys from cosmetic labs and using them to assist you in your rampage. Then again, cats are used as silencers — so forget I mentioned anything.

“Its”, not “it’s”. Its is a possessive, and it’s is short for “it is”.

I know this is just a video game and that it’s supposed to be a fun thing.
However, the fact that it has features like cats being used as silencers and environmentalists in the list of targets to kill, says pretty much everything about the level of consciousness of our world.

I know it’s just one video game, but take a good look around: environmentalists, activists, veg*ans, etc. are portrayed as the bad guys and as crazy people!!
Is it just me or isn’t this a sick twist of reality?

I’m also aware that in many video games humans are targets and that the more you kill the more points (or whatever) you get. But let’s keep in mind that while our societies teach us that it’s wrong to kill humans, and therefore there’s not a great risk of video game nerds going around killing people, unfortunately these same societies teach us that it’s okay to use animals for our benefit and amusement…

Maybe I’m being paranoid but I’m really concerned about this anti-good-guys movement throughout the planet.

Cats used as silencers? Is the image this immediately brings to mind the method used?
