I found it very odd that she was told that she did not have to change her diet after having an operation where a portion of her stomach, gallbladder, pancrease and intestine was removed. Of course, I understand now why her doctors did not recommend a significant change in her diet. Courses in nutition are electives in medical school. They are not a required portion of their program. Many just do not know much about good nutrition. Interestingly enough, the last time I went for an evaluation by a medical doctor, he looked to be morbidly obese. Statisically, it is rare that individuals diagnosed with this deadly disease are alive after 2-5 years with treatent. Chemo did not extent Mr. Swayze's life. It just made him another statistic. My mother may not have lived much longer without conventional treatment, but wasting away in a bed curled in a ball is not what I'd qualify as living. If traditional methods have not change the outcome (time before dying)why not try somwthing else. The medical profession has been given alot of time and money with no different results. I have been diagnosed with (early) stage breast cancer, I have every intention of living a longer, healthier life that does not include being balled up in a bed, wasting away hoping that(they) get it right this time. While there are those that may choose to wait on the hope of tons of research by the brightest of minds and millions of dollars spent already I'd rather spend my time on my knees in prayer than at a toilet.
