INTERNATIONAL PHOTO COMPETION BRINGS ATTENTION TO GLOBAL WATER ISSUE
Statement Arts Launches ?A Single Drop of Water?

?A Single Drop of Water? is an environmental awareness project that will use the arts, specifically photography, to document the journey of water. An international photography competition is now open to raise awareness about the importance, scarcity, and pollution of water. The project will provide photographers of all skill levels with a platform for sharing their images and stories about water. The competition is being produced by the New York based nonprofit organization Statement Arts.

$3500 worth of cash and prizes will be awarded to the winning photographers in five categories. Photos will be judged by award-winning photographers Paul Elledge, Leasha Overturf, and writer Christian Viveros-Faune. Winning photographs will be exhibited in New York City in Spring 2011. These photographs will further be used in Statement Arts education materials to teach young students about the importance of water and to inspire them to produce their own artistic work.

The competition is open to both professional and amateur photographers. The cost to enter a single photo is $25. Deadline for submissions is December 15th, 2010. Visit www.asingledropofwater.org for more information.

Statement Arts is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing the creative visual & performing arts to under-served and/or low-income individuals. Its goal is to channel creativity to educate, enhance intellectual performance, to empower and guide, and to build self-esteem. Statement Arts is committed to giving students an intercultural and interdisciplinary arts experience to which they do not have access. Statement Arts believes in the power of art to inspire social, cultural, and environmental education to further a legacy of responsible global citizenship. www.statementarts.org
