Kickin’ it like it’s 2006, Mario Van Peebles is set to debut a new eco-reality television series called Mario’s Green House aimed at showing how you and your family can go green at home. Unlike, say, Living With Ed — which had an already eco-hardened man taking us through the paces — Mario’s Green House is instead a comedic look at how his family renovates their new home and lives to have less impact on the planet. From the official site,
Mario has made a resolution to go green and he’s taking the family along the journey with him. He embarks on a massive eco-sensitive renovation of his house and hopes that the renovation will be a creative and meaningful project for his entire family, With a busy Hollywood career and a full-time job as Dad, Mario soon learns that major construction is just the tip of the iceberg when he needs a whole lifestyle makeover.
The first episode will find Ed Begley Jr. paying a visit to the Pebbles’ home — something I suspect all greenies now threaten their children with if they don’t compost properly. After that, over the course of seven more shows, Peebles’ says we’ll learn about water conservation, recycling, community involvement, and much more. There’s even a meeting with recently ousted Obama-czar Van Jones. “We’re learning and we’re having fun doing it,” Mario recently told NPR. “And you know, they said one of the number reasons people buy Priuses is because of what it says about the driver. So whatever gets you in the eco house, whether it’s watching our show or Ed’s show or whatever makes it work, we need to make it work and we need to make it work for tomorrow.”
Look for Mario’s Green House to premiere on TV One this Sunday, September 27th at 6PM EST. Check out a trailer for the show below the fold.
