For this week’s Twitter Thursday, we’re doing something a little different. The people behind the charity search engine GoodSearch.com have offered up $50 to three winners to donate to a charity of their choice. So, instead of winning something for yourself, you’ll actually be able to up the karma points by giving back to your favorite non-profit.

If you’ve never heard of GoodSearch, we highly recommend taking a look at their concept. Basically, using the Yahoo! search engine, the site allows you to scour the web like normal. The big difference is that 50% of all revenue generated by GoodSearch is given to those schools and charities selected by its users. So if you’re someone who does a lot of searches daily — you could really be using that habit to benefit others at the same time. You can also add the GoodSearch Toolbar to your browser, and each time you shop at one of more than 1,000 participating top stores (from Amazon to Zazzle!), your charity will earn a percentage of the purchase price – at no extra cost to the user!

Today’s winners will get to choose from more than 83,000 non-profits listed on GoodSearch (full list here), with those selected receiving the $50 in the company’s December payout.

Want to win for your favorite charity? Hit the fold below to learn more!

How To Enter Via Twitter

1.) Join Twitter (if you haven’t already).
2.) Follow @ecorazzi on Twitter.
3.) At 3pm EST, we’ll send out a contest message. All you have to do is re-tweet that contest message and add it to your updates. So if we say:

“Follow @ecorazzi & @Goodsearch and RT this to win: We’re giving away 2 $50 donations to your favorite charity! 30th and 70th person to RT this wins!”
You’ll say:

“Follow @ecorazzi & @Goodsearch and RT this to win: We’re giving away 2 $50 donations to your favorite charity! 30th and 70th person to RT this wins!”

(Note: exact wording will differ at contest time.)

4.) The 30th and 70th person to RT that message will each choose a charity to receive $50 by selecting from GoodSearch’s list of more than 83,000 non-profits! (Feel free to enter as many times as you like — but don’t be annoying to your followers. Nobody likes that! :) )

How To Enter Via Ecorazzi

1.) Leave a comment below telling us what charity you would like to help out with $50! We’ll then pick one of you at random to win a tee. Comments will remain open for entries until tomorrow at 3PM EST. Please, one entry per person!

I’d like to nominate HEART (Humane Education Advocates Reaching Teachers). Here is some info:

HEART’s mission is to foster compassion and respect for people, animals and the environment by educating youth and teachers in Humane Education.

HEART is dedicated to developing youth into caring and responsible citizens. Our integrated character and humane education curriculum includes lesson plans covering animal welfare, social justice, and environmental protection. Through in-classroom instruction and service learning programs students learn respect, responsibility and empathy toward all living beings and the natural world.

Their program covers everything from factory farming to child labor to pollution. People, animals and the environment. The perfect trio.

I would want the $50 donation to go to my favorie charity, Susan G. Komen for the Cure.1 in 8 women get breast cancer in their lifetimes, and this charity helps fund important research and programs to help people currently going through treatment. I donate my own money and time, as well as walk and fundraise on their behalf when I can. We need a cure to this disease, and every dollar helps.

There are a number of great animal sanctuaries in the US (and worldwide); one of my favorites is Eastern Shore (http://blog.bravebirds.org/). Unfortunately, they don’t seem to be on GoodSearch’s list, so I’d probably need to get them added should I win. Ditto: Peaceful Prairie (http://www.peacefulprairie.org/).

I would donate the $50 to The $10 Club, was founded to help support poverty alleviation projects worldwide. The premise behind The $10 Club (“Saving the world, $10 at a time”) is that many people giving a modest amount can add up to significant change and progress in areas of the word that need it most. http://www.thetendollarclub.org
