The Daily Show Tackles Environmentalism, Wind Power And Climate Change

September 25th 2009

On Wednesday, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart tackled the very challenging subject of climate change in a new segment called “Our Dead Planet.”

In the feature, Aasif Mandvi examines the issues of wind power, environmentalism and, of course, climate change.

Peppered with humor like only The Daily Show can, this segment manages to both educate and entertain.

In the video, climate scientist Dr. Eugene Tackle shares that wind power isn’t a solution because, “over the past 30 years wind speeds have declined…and this would have an impact on human health, could have an impact on agriculture.”

“It could be due to reforestation. Planting of trees in natural forests create friction to the wind, so this could be the cause for declining wind speed. ”

Yikes! Check out the video below to watch the entire feature!

  1. Climate change is effecting every country. Is there
anything we can do at our level to control it? While at high school, I signed a campaign to “Go Green, Promote Green” but nothing big ever happened. This is one cause we all would certainly like to get involved into if only we know how?

  2. Climate change is real, but has nothing to do with humans. All of the “causes” (esp. CO2) blamed by the Green Lobby are bogus, as are virtually all the “solutions”.

But, I hope, it may not matter. In 5 or 6 years, focusfusion.org may be able to offer cheap ($250,000), totally clean, non-radioactive fusion generators to the world, producing 5MW each at under ½¢/kwh. This will put every “dirty” (and every “clean” over-priced green) generating system out of business in short order. Even hydro and fission power will be economic white elephants.

Desalination, light, heat, cooling, food, transportation, and even space access will rapidly become affordable everywhere.

    Keep your fingers crossed!
