Sorry Willem but surely anybody concerned with water issues should be advocating a total boycott of this event.

As ecorazzi points out the event is being sponsored by Dow, who are responsible for the Bhopal disaster (to be correct, it was Union Carbide, who Dow now own), but this does not quite paint the full picture.

The reason that the 27 members of congress ‘requested’ that Dow clean up the site is that the toxic materials left at the site, by Union Carbide, are polluting the drinking water of an estimated 30,000 people.

Under recognised international law Dow, as owners of Union Carbide, are responsible for the clean-up in Bhopal yet steadfastly refuse to do so.

Dow prefer to spend their money on advertising and PR and their sponsorship of Live Earth is an important tranche of that strategy.

The only way to counter this tactic is to BOYCOTT LIVE EARTH.
