The Green Quote: Nicole Kidman Says Women’s Rights Are Human Rights

kidman“These champions need and deserve our support. Not with a box of band-aids, but with a comprehensive, well-funded approach that acknowledges that women’s rights are human rights. It is time for policies that intentionally involve society’s key communities — from health and education departments to the police and judiciary — to deliver on that commitment. To succeed, it requires political will at the highest levels.”

-Actress Nicole Kidman speaking to the U.S. House of Representatives Sub-Committee on International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight.  Kidman is the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Goodwill Ambassador and has dedicated much time and effort to the advancement of women’s rights.

Human rights, environmental rights and animal rights: they’re all connected.

  1. Um … I don’t think Kidman said anything about animal rights. Project much?

  2. She didn’t say anything about environmental rights either. I was simply making commentary that they are all connected.

  3. Women are human beings => are entitled to human rights. What a concept. I take it that Saudi Arabia hasn’t delved into that deep reasoning yet.

  4. Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.

Or as Rebecca West said back in 1913, I have never understood what feminism is. I only know people call me a feminist when I express sentiments that distinguish me from a doormat or a prostitute.

  5. Way to change the title from “Animal Rights” to “Humane Rights” — Aren’t bloggers supposed to publicly acknowledge their mistakes?

  6. Eric- What in the world are you talking about?

  7. The title never said “Animal Rights,” it was only in the commentary at the end.

  8. and now its time for Eric to publicly acknowledge his mistake.:-P
